Re-loading my 32 win spcl , hornady ammo , wth..

I was cleaning up some once fired brass from hornady today . Leverevolution 32 win spcl.
I noticed that at the bottom of the brass about 3/8" of an inch from the base the brass was bulged.
Not enough to notice at a glance but it is there. I popped the primers and ran them through
my re - sizing die , of course no difference. I checked some winchester factory ammo
I had fired once in the same gun and it was fine. So I checked the other hornady brass laying
about and it looks the same. Only the Leverevolution seems to do this.

What do you think guy's should I chuck it , is it even worth trying to re-load? The only
reason I ask is this brass is hard to come by. Thanks In advance.......

I am now noticing that after the second fire with my hornady 30/30 leverevolution ammo
that there is a ring about 3/4 of the way up the case. It is almost like someone took a sharp
tool and mad a perfect ring around the case. This is only happening with the hornady ammo.
When I use new cases un-fired winchester ,and 2nd fired winchester store bought ammo
no problem. I am starting to believe that hornady makes there cases good for 1 maybe 2
shot's at most. So even though these leverevolution rounds are very accurate , they are
not ment to be re-loaded. I guess in there defense it keeps people buying new ammunition.

Kinda scares me though if this is the case , hornady seems to be making cases that
just get by. Seems like might not be all that safe.. JMHO. cheers...

I would just measure the base diameter of your cases and see if these cases are a little smaller than the others. The .32 Special is a low pressure cartridge with a chamber pressure of 38,000 cup or 42,000 psi and the cases should last a lifetime.

Below, these .303 British cases were fired in the same Enfield rifle, the Prvi case is a larger diameter and has thicker case walls in the base. The HXP case has a smaller base diameter and thinner case walls but is within manufacturing guidelines.

You can also use a bent paperclip and check inside the case for thinning in the base web area indicating a possible case head separation.

The greek hxp is more like what the hornady looks like after being fired. Just a bit longer and more noticed. I will
measure and see what I get. I don't notice any case head seperaation though. Thanks for the info. CHEERS Mike

It is called a pressure ring, and yours seems to be more than normal from what you describe.
I would guess that the leverevolution ammo in your gun is at the very upper end of acceptable pressure. The gun/brass can't handle anything hotter and you would also be wise to toss out that brass. If you were to make handloads and you noticed an excessive pressure ring, you would back off.

I think I am leaning towards throwing out this brass. It shoots great outa the box very accurate I still have a couple of boxes
for next years deer. " I HOPE !!!. " Funny how the winchester brass show's no sign of wear. Now I just need to find some

I had the same thing happen with some rem. brass, brand new for my 7x57, loaded them up with my standard load. They came out with a pronounced bulge just above the web so I miked the bases and compared to both federal and winchester they were a few thou smaller, thus the more noticable bulge. They work just fine if I neck size only.
