So,

I have my AR... I removed the plastic forearms to measure the barrel.
Whoa Mama!

No wonder this bastard is so heavy.

It's 1" the entire length with .75" from Front Site to Flash Hider. Did I mention it is a 20" barrel.

So yeah...

I am in BC... where should I go? How much should I expect to pay?

Thanks :)

Thats what they called a HBAR - Heavy Barrel, Cheaper to sell it and get a Government profile 20".

Just thought I'd follow up...

I spoke to the guys at DLASK and they had no problems with my request... I dropped it off this morning and the cost will be much much much less than buying a new barrel ;)

Let's just say it's what I was hoping for from the research I had done; Perhaps it's because I stripped everything down and really did just give them a barrel.

Either way I will take some pics and post when I get it back in a few days - I can hardly wait

~Cheers

Wait until you see how it shoots before getting too excited. Most guys pay a premium for the Hbar profile... The cost difference if you'd sold the Hbar and bought a light one probably wouldn't be so much cheaper.

Well, I don't want to get myself in trouble by posting prices that have been quoted to me :)

I'd suggest giving them a call... my experiences with them for the machining I have had done in the past has been good.

I think it basically comes down to the less work they have to do - the better the price is going to be.

My analogy would be the BRAKE shop... you bring a car in and say "Change the brakes" it's going to cost you Mucho-$$$
But, if you bring in some rotors and say "Can you turn these?" It's going to be very cost-effective :)

I would be willing to trade my chrome lined Colt 20" thin profile barrel with mint bore for an HBAR. I will even throw in the handguards, FSB, gas tube and pay shipping both ways.

Any takers?

I will take a bull barell anytime over a thin profile. Keep up better to heat of firing and in my experience, got better accuracy than a thin profile. If you are only interested in close encounter , spray and play, then this is irrelevant.

HEY

I was here first... get in line!:D

I dunno guys... they're pretty friggin heavy :); it was pretty much a bench only gun.

The barrel was Wilson 20" HBAR (.950" under the handguard and .750" at muzzle) with 1:9 twist and Not-Chrome lined.

I really think HBARS are only good for absorbing recoil which might be why people think they are more accurate. I will agree though that it took much more to heat it up.

I plopped my rifle down on a bathroom scale and it was 10lbs.

Agit-Prop: Had I known you'd do that trade I'd have been all over it :)
Oh well, live and learn :p

I'll still post pics in a few days ;)

As promised:

I just put it back together... what a difference - .625 at the thinnest areas... fast professional service :D
