I am taking the 17 inch barrel of my Ar and putting a 10.5 inch on it.

Do I need to report the barrel change to the CFO and get a new reg cert for the firearm?

The logical answer is no you don't. Barrel length does not change the status, stop worrying about stupid sh*t and shoot. Ntloukas has the answer..

Take off the upper when you get home and it resets the 30 day mark :ban:

Still need to call in and change your registration to "lower only" :kickInTheNuts:

But the way the regulation is written or lack of, if you make a change and decide to keep it, you have to notify them within 30 days. however AR with multiple uppers, the whole thing is based on who you get on the phone that day.

I had a conversation with someone at the CFO, we came to an understand, if you register it with the shortest barrel in your collection you are less likely to get into a sticky situation with the cops.

Yep....within 30 days of the change

Only if it changes the classification of the firearm. That said, if the rifle is going to permanently wear the new shorter barrel I would call and change it to avoid being accused of chopping it down to 10.5" from the original 17" in the extremely unlikely event it ever became an issue with a police officer.

I just reclassified my Ar from lower only to complete rifle. While on the phone I asked same question about multiple uppers and was told you would just tell them the shortest barrel.

Yes because the shortest barrel makes all the difference to the registration system. I love it that the CFC makes shart up on a daily basis to cover the obvious failings of an idiotic computer list of firearms.

Hey the system works, think of the children! The gov knows what they're doing, they're professionals
