re-sleeved my bacon revolver cylinder I've been putting this off for awhile but
finally had time today.

someone drilled out the cylinders for some reason maybe to remove rust?
first i ran a tap through to give the silver solder something to hold onto.

i turned down a couple of Pontiac head bolts in my lathe.

the cylinder on the left is from my 1851 colt the right one is from the bacon revolver.

29/30 caliber

That's a beautiful revolver you have there.

good for another 150 years absolutely amazing

Nothings slick as those little open tops, all the great Victorian era gunfighters cut their teeth on them.

Cheers

You should not have run that tap in there. You created a crap load of stress risers and effectively reduced the thickness of the walls by the depth of the threads. Running a tap in does not appear in any of the gunsmith literature for a reason.
How did you convince the solder to fill the half inch of volume between the bottom of the threads and the sleeve? Solder is not a gap filler.
with your method you could have just tapped the cylinder and then threaded in the bolts!

Interesting. Any worries over potential gap at the back of the cylinder where the liners butt up against the back of the cylinder, where BP residue might hide and corrode the cylinder unseen?
