So I finally trimmed down my single shot 10 gauge to 18 3/4 inches. Everything went well except the barrel walls are super thick - it looks like a cannon!

Has anyone had their barrels turned down to the original tapered to reduce the wall thickness and make it look more finished?

What about the fit of the forend, and the forend attachment lug?
Or do you just want it tapered from the forend tip to the muzzle?

I don't know how old or what model your shotgun is, but the wall thickness of the barrel is that thick for a reason. The majority of the pressure in a shotgun occurs in the first third of the barrel (about the first 9 to 11 inches), so the barrel is thickest there. Reducing that thickness may lead to a catastrophic failure. I would seek the advice of a good gunsmith (one who specializes in old shotguns).
Cheers

The only time I have turned a shotgun barrel was just to make the muzzle look better... often when you cut a 30 inch barrel back to 20 the wall thickness is extremely uneven. I just turned as little as possible - slight taper over about 4 inches and blended it in and re blued the barrel.

The forend lug is about 11.5 inches from the end of the barrel. If the taper started at the lug, the most the gap would be is about 3mm and I can live with that.

I think its a H&R Pardner and doesn't appear to be that old. Where it was cut the wall thickness is 5mm and the original muzzle has a thickness of 2mm.
