Re: the Tavor 21

Taurus was chosen for Brazilian sales. "Domestic component"

The tavor is defined by the ATF as "non-sporting" so must be made in the US.

CanAM is correct. The infection of the term "non-sporting" never reared its ugly head until the 1989 Bush I mil-type import ban that first used that word, which has been sadly re-cycled by those nice bored boys with entirely too much time on their hands at the US BATFE.

I belong to several INTERNATIONAL, yes, international, sports in the form of IPSC, IDPA and various other 3-gun and other activities with worldwide a following that are apparently invisible to those bored--as well as myopic--boys at the BATFE. I don't personally do Cowboy action, but, that is yet another international action shooting sport, but does not involve the innocent vaguely mil-resembling firearms we use, that have been somehow misnamed: "assault weapons (I have been looking for the "happy switch" that makes my rifles go full auto, as per "assault weapons" by definition for years with no success)."

THerefore, ever since 1989, we have had to have a US mfg to partner up and assemble foreign mil-style sporting guns with no more than 10 (count 'em) foreign parts. If the ten part rule is adhered to, then it's a US gun, and therefore blessed and legal (haleluah!) Also, the foreign barrels were "banned" from parts kits last year, so we know that barrels and nine other parts will have to be mfg'd here. So I guess now we shall have an anointed Tavor. Finally.

THat sounds more like an attempt to keep the U.S. arms manufactures/ overall economy busy and keep the people working... which makes financial sense... but their export restrictions work in the opposite direction... The opposing ideals are kind of Odd.

So if we can get FN PS90's and FS200's exported out of the US there is a chance we will see the Taurus Tavor up here.....a little competition on the CDN market is always good.

Taurus cannot sell them outside SA per agreement. The FN's were a special deal worked out between FN and the ATF due to FN's unique position as the main supplier of small arms to the Us military,

So the Taurus Tavor won't be sold outside of South America? I thought the US was getting them?
"Non-sporting" rifles, which the Tavor is, must be made in the US to be sold in the US. The Tavor is already mostly made in the Us to comply with FMA/FMS rules. This was recently discussed in another thread.

So...If we can import guns directly from China and the Czech Republic then how long till someone figures out a way to import them from Brazil without going thru the USA?

Heads up. I believe it was Clinton here in the USA, that instituted a TOTAL ban on ANYTHING firearm from China. THat's right. . . a complete ban on Chinese arms, regardless of type. So, all those Norinco (and other Chinese guns) things that CanAm sells are VERBOTEN in the good old USA!

It was George w. Bush, NOT Clinton.

The Brazilian Tavors would be easier to import than US-made Tavors. Which means we should see them in Canada eventually.

...except that Taurus is NOT ALLOWED to sell any Tavor outside South America as per their licensing agreement with IWI, which has been mentioned at least twice in this thread already.

I wish your hypothesis was quite so innocent. It is NOT about industrialization and jobs so much as GUN GRABBING ignorance!! Again, sorry, but that's the truth. It's gun grabbing and nothing else.

Thanks.

Being from south of your border here in the USA, I was recently surprised (pleasantly) to find that the Tavor civvy model is available to Canadians, albeit in a ten-rd. max capacity. Down here we hear alot about how the anti-gunners have alot of sway in Canada. Good to hear that a fine gun like the Tavor can be owned up there.

I'm surprised no one else mentioned this, but the round capacity is placed on the mag, not the firearm. 10 for pistol mags, 5 for rifle mags. Using a LAR-15 mag here in Canada on any rifle using typical AR-15 mags is the hot ticket. Joining 'em butt to butt with a doohickey allows us to run around with 20 rounds at our fingertips.

Are we spoiled'r what?
