Re-thinking Lube on the M16FOW

Run a can with grease...

Believe me I have tried grease, it does not work in high round count guns, or suppressed or in dusty sandy conditions.

Certainly not disputing that, as my own experience with grease indicates it requires frequent reapplication in very dusty environments. So in an application like you describe I can see grease as a hindrance. For those of us who do not have those concerns, I think grease is still the best.

I still like the idea of 0w40 synthetic diesel motor oil on AR's. It has an incredible sheer strength. It is slightly tacky. Excellent flow properties in all temperatures. Very high in detergent which helps with the carbon thing. Cheap like borscht compared to fancy gun oils.

So I followed the instructions - clean all other lubes off. Coat with fire clean and let soak overnight. Wiped off fire clean and fouling and then used it to lube the bolt, carrier and cocking handle.

I'm going to shoot the ORA SR this weekend and see how it looks.

I have tried Mil-L-4600 semi fuild in the C8 "AKA Monkey C*m" Works well and easy to get if your in the CF as there is a active NSN for it. It works fantasic in the 50 BMG, GMG, MK19 and C6 GMPG BTW.

Thought I would resurrect this thread.

I got a one ounce sample from Fireclean in the fall at a show. I used it all summer for SR, some three gun competitions and load development in three AR's and my Glock.

I'm all out now, but it does clean up easier. Even better, it was still wet after three weeks of shooting. Zero stoppages, and one ounce lasted all summer.

I'm getting some more for NSCC and the rest of the year.

Anyone else tried it?

The ultimate lubricant test:

Completely submerge the cleaned and lubricated firearm into portland GU(Type 10) concrete powder. It drys out grease very quickly and would be the ultimate simulation of adverse conditions.

Been rocking this all summer and its amazing. Bought 2x 2oz bottles and I'm not even close to being finished the first bottle. I've put about 1500 rounds through my AR.
