Real Italian T2 Garands

I'm going to regret not buying one of these but I just can't justify the outlay of coin @ the moment.

Nice rifle FlightRN.

I guess it's a post war Collectors Dream. Nice to see a variation.

Kind of like the scenario as the Norwegian K98's converted to .30-06 from 8mm, and the postwar M1D Sniper Danish .30-06 Garands that Districorp brought in back in the 90's. Remember the Gunrunner newspaper ads!

Everything is relative. I bought a Danish surplus M1D for $800 in 1998. Conventional Danish Garands were selling for around $300 at the time. They got even cheaper after the market became saturated.

I bought the M1 d scope kits Distrcorp was selling for about two days.
Scope, flash hider sling. Then I bought 10 M1d's Winchester's and Springfields
Then they quit selling them, and parted them all out and sent them to America
All in about two weeks!

I remember at the Calgary Gun Shows in the mid to late 90's, there were M1 Garands there for $99. They were all mismatched colors of wood.
One guy had probably about 30 for sale on his table. I should have bought them all! Lol

The Italian Dane M1's are a prize, Danes take marksmanship very seriously. The VAR barrels are top notch...now the beech stocks they made were hideous, they were meant for durability and shooting stability, not esthetically pleasing at all, but they were beefy and solid. If you could get the2 ones with original Italian SILE stocks they looked good and shot good. The Beech versions shot good but looked a mess on an M1.
I picked up 2 in early 2000's for $300 each, Breda still had the SILE wood and it is a great shooter, I almost traded it at the range to a guy for a USGI 1911 because they were worth alot more at the time. I asked to put 1 more clip though it, and it was about a 1" group with 8 rounds at 100m and told buddy sorry, this is a keeper lol.
The Beretta was restocked and had a VAR barrel but nearly everything was newly parked except the receiver. I had to ditch the beech stock at the time as it was too nice in that mess of green/grey half mooned stock, put it in a Boyds I finished myself, and it rarely comes out.
All the T2 are sold now it seems...but here's my $300 Dane in a Boyds.

Two questions:
1) What is a SILE stock?

2) I have a Berretta M1 30'06 I bought about 10 years ago. it has a pretty Beech striped stock. i shot it once when I bought it, then prepped it for life in the safe, so i can't remember all the details but the gas plug was Beretta marked , the barrel i think was a Springfield. This was long before the influx of receivers and the homebuilt craze arrived. What should I look for to find it's background?

Sile is a stockmaking company in Italy.
They made the sporting stocks for Parker Hale rifles, stocks for the sported Mausers that Century Arms sold, and even Savge laminated .22 stocks, among others.

Besides making stocks for the Beretta and Breda Garands, Sile also made replacement Garand stocks for the Italian military. You can find the "SILE" stamp in the barrel channel or under the buttplate of their stocks. The Sile stocks are well made; I've installed a number of new ones.

Some of the European walnut stocks original to the Beretta and Breda rifles are very pretty.

T2’s are actually quite rare, congratulations to everyone who managed to get a real one.

You won’t regret it, these are near unobtanium in the USA and Europe.

Cherish them!

I dont even like garands, but if i hadnt bought a rifle this week i would grab a sniper at these prices. Great deal.

It would be interesting to know how many Type 1 Garands (see differing heel stamp) made it in. Does anyone have any more info on the differences from the 7,62-2 marked ones versus the CAL 7,62 FAET 6X stamps?

I've built a number of Tipo 2 rifles on Breda and Beretta receivers using Italian surplus T2 components incl barrels, stocks, op rods and the mag spacer blocks. I've found that the barrels were always lightly used and gauge like new. NOS stocks and op rods were in as new condition as well. Standard M1 Garand op rod springs and rear handguards can be shortened to T2 dimensions.

Overall they make a very nice rifle and have proven to be excellent shooters. I just range tested my latest build on a Breda receiver using UK Radway Green ball ammo and handloads with IMR 4895 and Nosler 155 gr match bullets. It functioned and shot very well.

I wonder what happened to the original Italian flash hiders on the m1d's?
I have a couple and they are very nicely made, each one has the maker's marks stamped on the opposite side of the other one. Wonder how that happened
It is also interesting to see that the American's have the Italian factory Breda receivers and Canada has the
SA converted receivers.
So, then do the Canadian one's also have the SA converted op rod's?
Beretta made 7.62 op rods etc for their guns
Do these guns have the steel 7.62 calibre blocks made by Beretta or FIAT?
BM 59 's had cut down SA barrels and SA op rods.
