Real or too good to be true?

I found this on another Canadian website at a very reasonable price. Should this not have the stick-out barrel?
Are mags hard to get for it here?

If that is a USP Compact in 9 or 40, the mags are the same as the P2000 mags in 9 or 40. I have bunch of mags for a P2000 in 9. Some started out life as "USP Compact" mags, but they are all the same in specs. Maybe some little minor differences in markings.

I did a thread on P2000 mags and baseplates at some point. It probably shows the markings.

If the barrel isn't over 105mm, you don't want anything to do with that. I'm not even sure that gun was produced before the law changed. Regarding that P250, it says "Barrel Length 3.9 in". If that is true then there is no way that gun would be able to legally come into Canada and be registered into the system for transfer to an individual.

On that USP Compact, it says "High cap pistol" and "THE PISTOL ONLY COMES WITH ONE 13 ROUND MAGAZINE." That cannot be correct if it is legal. 13 round mag pinned to 10 maybe. Between that and the picture with the clearly sub 105mm barrel, stay away.

P.S. - Wow! He says $430. If sellers in Canada could sell restricted USP Compacts for $800, they would be moving them like hotcakes. $430? That is just bizarre. It all seems to point to a United States gun, with U.S. barrel, U.S. hi-cap mag, situated in the U.S., and for sale at U.S. prices in U.S. dollars, and somebody probably just posted it on there not realizing that the name of the site is firearmscanada.

I had some dealings with someone of that website and it turned out to be a scam. The guy only wanted money orders and wouldn't accept EMT. This individual turned out to be from Montreal as well. I found out that hje had even photoshopped a copy of my RPAL with his name on it to scam other guys.

I would tread very carefully here. I'm sure there are some legit guys there with some deals but without any feedback system like the EE, it is hard to tell the good from the bad.

Not 12.6, USP's are large guns, even the compact versions.

Full sized USPs in 9 or 40 are 108mm barrel (4.25 inch). That is what it said on my Reg Cert when I had one.

Now I have a P2000 and (I believe) it says 107mm. Factory in the States they are 3.86 inch (98mm)

USP Compacts in 9 and 40 are even smaller. 3.58 inch (90mm, so you are getting into GLOCK 26/27 territory for "stick out factor" on a restricted one - if you could even find one in Canada to make restricted). While USPs are big, the barrel sits farther forward than many other guns. I don't believe we have ever had USP Compacts in 9 and 40 here in Canada, just the Tactical one in .45 with the threaded barrel. I strongly suspect there are no 12.6 USP Compacts registered to individuals in Canada.

If he accepts a $100 deposit and initiates a transfer, and that all works hunky-dory with the CFC, then great. But I can't see how this has a happy ending for you. Most likely scenario is, whatever money you front is gone and you never hear from the guy. Worst case scenario is, he sends you an illegal unregistered prohibited firearm, the police get wind of this (ahem! through the internet), show up undercover at the post office, and proceed to dismantle your whole life.

What does the guy say when you put these questions to him, i.e. "Is it a restricted firearm?" "What barrel length is it registered under?" If you can't get answer to those questions, don't even think about sending any money in any form.

I saw a NIB Wilson Combat for $1600! on that same website and a NIB defender sized 1911. Makes me think that some of these scammers aren't too bright or don't know very much about Canadian firearm regs.

BTW, I believe that stock USPc barrels are actually under 106mm, which is probably why you'll never see any USPc in 9mm or .40. I think the USPc 45 tactical is the only one that you'll find in Canada.

The way we figured out that the one I was dealing on was a scam, was after we agreed that he would sell it to me, I had a buddy, who was registered on the site, log on and ask the guy if the gun was still available, to which he said it was. He went on to say that he only accepted money orders and gave the name and address to send it to.

After I saw that I knew he was trying to draw in as many guys as he could.

You might want to try something like that.

No answer yet..

CFC listed the USP Compact as first being released in 1997 so in theory it could be an original 13 round / 91mm barrel gun and based on a December 1998 cut-off date the gun (in theory) could be a 12(6) prohibited handgun.

If it's a 12(6) handgun then honestly the value would not be that high given that there is a limited market for 12(6) handguns (limited number of buyers) and many 12(6) handguns often sell for $250 or $300... so $400 to $450 isn't really all that "cheap".

There's no reason he shouldn't be able to provide you with a scan or photo of the registration certificate for the gun (that would proves what it is and how it's registered.

At the end of the day... if you have concerns or doubts then walk away. Gut instincts are usually correct... don't talk yourself into doing something that your instincts tell you is wrong... tell the man your concerns and see how he reacts... if he's legit then he should be able to satisfy your questions.
