Real World 7x57 Load - Results are in with pics!

Nice rifle Jacky. I'm not a Savage fan but I appreciate how well they shoot and must admit, Savage definitely pulled up their socks on quality, when they installed their CNC equipment, several years back. They seem to be maintaining the equipment well, from the looks of things.

I have never owned a Savage ( or even a NA made rifle for that matter) until this one. I have always been a fan of european arms, like my Tikka and CZ.

However that said if all Savages shoot like my 7X57...I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Now my rifle was made in 1992, would Savage have had the CNC at that time ?

The 7X57 cartridge is so fun to reload because of all the options. I had heard that reloader 19 works well ? anyone ?

I have two rifles chambered for 7mm mauser; a ruger that I bought new about 14 years ago, and a husqvarna 4100. They have both proven to be very accurate, sub MOA rifles. The ruger I use mostly for wolf hunting with 120 grn bullets over 4320 and moving around 3150 fps. I started with ballistic tips but found them to be way too destructive and have switched to barns tipped tsx. The husqvarna seems to shoot everything well, I just took two deer with 140 nosler partitions over 48 grns of IMR4350 loaded with my lee loader. I really enjoy reloading for this round, and my next experiments will be with reduced loads. Here is a photo of my two 4100s, a .308 and the 7x57.

Is anyone, but me that is, still using the old standby heavyweight bullets, ie the 175 grain RNSP in the 7x57. My Holland & Holland (built on a DWM Mauser 98 action in .275 Nitro Express (same as the .276 Rigby & 7x57) loves the Remington SPCL. Considering that where I hunt 75 yards is a REAL long shot, I've never felt handicapped by the lack of super-duper high B.C.'s.

I want to try some RL17 in it that I just picked up.

Thanks MS, Jamesharrison, I have tried spitzer 175's in my 4100 but the barrel twist won't stabilize them. I believe it will stabilize round nose though. Must of shots on game end up being medium-long range (150-350 yds) sheep, caribou, wolf and moose, so the lighter bullets are suitable, besides the moose maybe. This is my first deer, taken two weeks ago in Saskatchewan, at 350 yds.
