Real-world close range shotgun deer hunting - Hornady Varmint Express #4 Buckshot

Brobee, I would love to see one day from you a video comparing Improved Cylinder performance to a XF-Turkey choke with your favorite buckshot hunting load. It doesn't have to be on-game, it can be a 40 yard cardboard test.

Thanks
I would like to see that as well always though you could over choke buck shot making it fly wild ..my best results came with a rem full choke and the hornady #4 buck ..worked well out to 40 yards mayby 50 Dutch

Great video and outstanding follow up postmortem!
I too came to the same conclusion after shooting buckshot ONCE- never again.
I just was not happy with the the fact that although I made a great lung shot the deer still to ran fr a extremely long way.

Forgive me if I glossed over. But you said you wouldn't use the #4... How do you feel about the 00 you compared the shot to early in the video?

00 vs Slug if you may

A couple years ago I did a similar hunting video with federal flight control 00 buck:

If the range was less than 40 yards, I would not hesitate to use 00 buck again. Past that, I'm definitely in the slug camp, my preference here being anything from the brenneke lineup.

Cheers, and thanks for watching!

I had a very good kill with OO Buck from a 3 1/2 10 ga. The deer fell fast and was dead when I got to it. Only recovered 1/2 of the pellets but they were well placed. I have only done this once on deer and a few times on coyotes. If I was going to do it again, even with the quick kill, I would be more comfortable with a slug. As deer do not always go or do what we expect a little more flexibility is better.
