Realistic price for pre 64 Win 338 & 358

Condition determines price, much more than most want to understand.

I sold a Pre 64 in 358 Winchester to a CGNer on here a few years ago for far less than any of the suggested prices in this thread. The rifle was perfectly functional, VG+ condition, but far from being what many consider to be excellent. Near perfect bore, it fed, fired, extracted, and ejected perfectly, and as far as I know, he is still killing moose and bear with the rifle in Quebec.

Asked about the same for it that it would cost to have a used rifle rebarrelled to 358 Win, and it sold quickly.

You know what they say about hindsight being 20-20...

When you list a rifle and get half a dozen "I'll take it's" in 5 minutes, you gotta think, "dang, my wallet is thinner than it should be."

It helps to know the product and market... research and experience makes all the difference.

No doubt about that.

To clarify my post, it could have read, "Asked about the same for it that it would cost to have bought a decent used rifle cheap, and have it rebarrelled to 358 Win. It sold quickly."

Quite a wile back, but IIRC got one reply. :)

Just as point of interest, a pre-'64 in .338 just sold at Switzer's Auctions. It was knocked down at $1400 + taxes and premiums. Total would have been just under $1800, and that rifle was no way near mint condition.

It's best to leave a wee bit of wiggle room in prices.
Or put 'nudder way, leaf a bit on the table for the next folk.

Rumor hazz'it Timmies is gonna sell bewze.
Only way they can git ten bucks fur a cuppoh java is to keep'im eneebeeraytitted.
