Realistic yet stupid question

Air Canada rules and regs, I assume they would be more or less the same everywhere. A storage locker might work, but I don't know if you can get an LATT to go to a storage locker.

Firearms
  • There is a fixed handling charge for the carriage of firearms anywhere Air Canada flies: $50 CAD/USD plus applicable taxes for one-way travel.
  • Hunting rifles and shotguns are accepted as checked baggage only, and must be unloaded.
  • The firearm must be inhibited from being fired by using a secure, locking device mechanism on the weapon, called a "Trigger Lock".
  • The firearm must be packaged in a specially designed, non-see through case that cannot be easily broken into during transport.
  • Before Air Canada accepts the firearm you must sign a declaration form attesting that the gun is unloaded as well as a limited release form.
  • Restricted firearms such as handguns require government documentation for transport. Consult the Canadian Firearm Center or the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) for complete details.
  • Passengers travelling to Seoul, South Korea and planning on bringing firearms into that country must contact Air Canada Reservations prior to travel for specific security requirements.

I left all my guns at home when I was in university. Personally I was not in a responsible phase with all the partying and randoms coming in an out of the house. I would get your pal, and wait till you finish school before buying a firearm.

Things like FOOD gets scares....

All schools in Canada will have some sort of policy prohibiting firearms on campus. you may want to educate your self more on Canadian firearms laws before getting your license. Otherwise you risk a big misunderstanding that may result in you getting expelled from school and lead out by the OPP swat team.

I am originally from Ontario, you may want to get your PAL in BC. I've been told the BC CFO is a lot better to deal with then the OPP.

Just a suggestion.

Also a lot of people at university are liberal anti gunners. So if word spread you are storing firearms on campus it wont take 6 degrees of separation before the police, school officials were notified

What does this have to do with me?
Plus what is LATT anyways!

Long term authorization to transport. You need one for every time you move a restricted firearm. They are usually issued to go between your house and your range.

Also, without a car/license how are you planning to transport your firearms to the range? Especially the restricted. Just curious because you mentioned you didn't really have friends in London at this time..

Can you not transport them via public transit? I mean on my LATT it says "a rout that is reasonably direct" or something like that. but i take that as its relative to your means of transportation. if the most direct rout on the bus is not the same rout as you'd take if you owned a car, would that not be ok?

For storage, a lockable cabinet at your parent's place if they agree, or storage at a friend's place. You can lend longarms to anyone who is a PAL owner, so they could store it for you.
Sorry, but I wrote to the CFC to ask exactly that question, and if your parents don't have a PAL, you can't store your firearms there. Even if they don't have access to them.

Provided all the other transportation regs (locking case with locked unloaded restricted) were in place, this would work, but transport via bus is rarely a very direct or good way to go.

The OP brings back memories... back in the day when I was 18 and got my first license for firearms (it was the FAC then...) I used my mother as a reference as most of my friends were not yet 18. In those days the RCMP did spot reference checks and actually came to our house for an interview. My mom was not pleased about the gun hobby but agreed to be a reference anyway.

When the RCMP guy arrived she made him coffee and and answered all his questions (I arrived home in the middle and sat in for the 2nd half of the visit). When the interview was finished everyone was saying goodbye when my mom told him she didn't want me getting the license... even though she was a reference. He told her that as long as I passed all the background checks he saw no reason to refuse me as I was an adult when my mom said "Did you know he was a communist?" He laughed and said even if that were true (which it obviously wasn't) that wasn't grounds to refuse the license.

I walked the member out to his car and he told me there was no problem and comisserated with me about what my mom had said. He told me that offhand comments from wives, girlfriends and mothers had actually caused major problems for FAC applicants in the past but that my mom's was so out to lunch he did not give it any credit...

Moral of the story is choose your references carefully!

I never planned on storing firearms @my parents place because they are in Hong KOng!

I know but I doubt my friends will willingly to be my reference anyways. Because there is a common misunderstanding that if I did sth bad with my guns then the references will be hold responsible. (Not sure if it is true!) By the way thank for the tips!

Is this still happening or is it a thing from the past? 10 years ago?

Reference calling is a new thing. I do not think mine were ever called, as I got mine in pretty much minimum legal time over the christmas break. I also have not seen my references since they signed my form, as they were high school teachers.

No guns in college dorms... Sorry :( But you can ask local ranges around London if they can store your guns for you. Most Ranges offer services like this to their members for a monthy storage fee.

How can you cook without knife?

The problem is I am from BC, I don't have any friends in London!

Not in Dawson College shooting and V tech! LOL

well no kim ver gil (no idea hows its spelt) did have one, but he also lived in his parents basement, yet his parents didn't really pay attention to him, and he had his rpal apparently a good while before he want off the deep end and decided to come "show us his toy" and its not that funny bud, you try seeing your cafeteria cover in blood and laugh about it

anyways no dorm in canada will allow firearms on campus hell almost all of them ban hotplates and other heating appliance cause of fire hazards, at least not that im aware of, and i don't think you can store them in a house where there is no one who is currently living there who has a permit so if neither of your parents have one and you officially no longer live with them they can't be stored there, unless it really is as you said and your gone for a semester come for the break go back then i think thats expectable but ask the cfo

I am not aware of ANY ranges in GTA that would even consider storing firearms for their members.

I am curious if you will find range like that in London area, where you are located.

If not, I suggest that it is probably the best idea to wait until you have graduated, and then pursue shooting sports.

Dan

Maybe there is a good reason your friends and your family don't trust you enough to be references?

If you're clever enough to make it through high school you should be able to find someone to be a reference. Or you don't get a firearms license. Your problem.

Take the RPAL course and you will be able to answer many of the questions you asked. That is, if you are actually serious and not a troll on a fishing expedition. It's hard to believe that anyone can actually be as unknowing as you appear to be unless it is an act.
