Beretta Silver Hawk Slug with 22" barrels would sure be a sweet handling rig for close quarter deer hunting.

I know Sabatti makes a SxS with rifle sights, but it's tough to find info on them. Any other SxS shotguns with rifled sights out there? Any with rifled barrels?

Me as well, however why not just have something like a .40 to .50 double rifle? 38-55 to 500 NE like maybe a 45-70 gov, or a 500 casull, etc.... They would be simpler to reload, and not only be great at short range, but capable of outdistancing the shotshell slug by a great margin. Cost maybe?

A lot of us are limited by shotgun only regulations.

Load some slugs into some brass shells and you have a poor mans double rifle. I looked at these years ago but info. on them and as you mentioned the Sabatti is hard to come by in NA.

I did exactly that 25 years ago, found an old Ithaca double in good sound condition, lopped it to 20" and mounted a set of Rem 700 sights on it, then went out with an assorment of slugs and tried 'er out. That gun loved Brenneke slugs and would put both barrels into about 4" at 50 mtrs. I was hunting WT in Sask with my cousins in those days and this was what I used when I was assigned bush pusher duty. Never got the opportunity to try it on hair, but I had great confidence if I could have. It was such a light, short, nimble little package, to thrash through the bush with, several of the team used it as well, when I was on point and they were pushers. Sorry I can't tell you it dropped deer in their tracks at 40 yds, as like I said it never got blooded, but I KNOW it would have. IIRC it put most of the slugs I tried on a paper plate at 50 mtrs, both barrels.
I'd almost forgot about that little double til you posted this.

c-fmbi - did you have dovetails cut into the rib? And speaking of Brenneke, they have a new slug out called the Magnum Crush - 3" Magnum with a 1.5oz slug and a muzzle energy of 3,800 ft-lbs. It is designed for rifled barrels so it probably wouldn't work very well out of a smoothbore. Do you know of any rifled SxS shotguns?

Cleftwynd - in addition to the aforementioned shotgun restrictions, you are correct about the cost. A high quality (equivalent to the Silver Hawk) double rifle would be much harder on the wallet. Also, you could just use a set of regular barrels on the Silver Hawk and have a fine bird gun.

TradeEx had a couple of interesting O/U rifled 12-gauge slug guns made by Verney-Carron. They had sights and, I believe, scope bases as well. I was sorely tempted to get one back when I lived in a shotgun-only zone. Very classy slug guns.

NB_GSXR - I don't know if they are even available here, but I suspect that you would be looking at ~$5000.

jjohnwm - yes, but I really like SxS and even used my Berreta 409 for trap.

As far as the sights went, no I just milled the bottoms flat on a set of factory 700 sights and drilled and tapped the rib. They actually functioned perfectly and looked good too. I think I only paid $200 for the old Ithica and the Brennehe slugs were 2.75" with the funny shaped nose and the fiber skirt IIRC. They were touted to be the best in the late 80's early 90's.

I would do it again in a heart beat if I was restricted to a shotgun, this time I'd use one of the $450 double Brnos at Tradex though, as they look like a rifle to start with and have sling swivels and a cheekpiece. Plus I just love sidelock doubles.
