really old .22 ammo

That's not old. If it is clean, fire away. I use ammo a lot older than that. My funny old candy tin that holds my ammo for chicken hunting has .22 Imperials from the 70's.

I used up a old coffee can of stuff my Dad was sure was the same stuff he was using with my Grandfather in the 50's. We found the can in his shop after he passed away. I am pretty sure it was head stamped with a D. I do not remember any bad ones and each one sounded the same unlike the Federal bulk stuff where you get a pop every once in awhile instead of a bang.
It had no lid on it and was covered up with a oily rag. Pretty sure storage conditions is the main concern.
Does anyone remember how the old Whiz-Bangs were stamped.

cookie.

You young whipper snappers don't know what old ammunition is!
I have CIL Dominion 22 rimfire ammunition in military boxes from WW2, like early to mid 1940s.
They shoot good.
Plus Winchester 45-70 from the late 1920s, or early 1930s. A couple of months ago I shot one cartridge in my Model 1884 Springfield "Trapdoor" rifle over a chronograph. It registered 1430 fps, about exactly what it was loaded to go, about 80 years ago.
