Really on the fence...KSG

Damnit, I wish I didn't end up with a lemon of a KSG.. I waited years like I said, 3 different shooters all tried it; all of us racked the absolute hell out of her and it failed to feed on I believe it was 5 different brands/types of ammo.. I'm still tempted to buy another and roll the dice again hoping for a better result however I don't know if I can justify risking another lemon.. Glad everyone else has had such positive results, makes me want to try again..

Adam134 could you list what the brands/types of ammo? I would happily spend $20-$30 bucks for some shells and see if the same problems happen. I was firing Federal slugs (F127RS I think) and Hornady (sigh) Zombie-Max 00.

Sure no problem. I used: S+B 00 Buckshot, S+B slugs, Federal target loads #9, Winchester Target Loads #7, Kent Velocity target loads, SCORE Canada slugs, Remington Slugs and even Winchester Rack Master slugs..
No matter which ammo it wouldn't cycle more than 2 rounds without the extractor failing to grab the spent shell and was in a hurry to feed a new shell before extracting the old so it continually jammed up.. Even when tried with a foregrip the extractor was so weak it wouldn't grab the shells and ended up scraping up the sides of the rim of the casing.. I'll see if I can find the pictures of the damaged casings that I sent to the distributor..
I know by and large most people have had great experiences with their KSG and like I said I'm on the fence if I should try once more as they are quite alot for a shotgun.

Yes, they are entirely too expensive! I was frightened of encountering the kind of problems you mentioned, since I had read quite a lot about it. The only thing I can figure is that there are multiple revisions of the products out there, and for whatever reason, you got an earlier/less-good one.

Good info on the KSG, I was on the fence about them too. I was at the annual Brandon gun show and Jo Brooks had one on display, first time I've ever held one, but damn did it feel good! Tucked into my shoulder perfectly, but I do agree I'd need aftermarket irons or some kind of optics on it to beef up the accuracy. Now comes the hard part of not spending money on my other guns so I can save up for the KSG...

Adam134, what did Vault have to say about it? Did they try to help you out?

Cheers

Who is this importer?

Vault is the Canadian distributor.

I've had my KSG for about 6 months, but in that time there's been around 1000 rounds down the pipe and at least 15 different shooters who have tried and everyone loved it.

The only issue I ever had (outside of when someone short stroked it) was the small screw for the selector was loose. I put a bit of locktite and put it back in and have not had any issues since.

I do recommend the cheek rest for cold days :) and a shoulder pad if you're going to make a habit of running slugs though it.

I can't find any of the S+B to run through it to see if it jams. But I did run a selection of stuff through it last week, and I had no problems. I'll put money on this being a Gen 1 vs Gen 2 thing.

Vault had said to me that it could have been a couple different defective parts, they were going to send me the arm that feeds the shells from the tubes to the chamber and a new selector switch.. I waited and waited and they never arrived so once I called the retailer I had purchased it from after a few drawn out conversations they accepted a return.. Vault swore they had shipped my parts out, and I've been waiting since summer for them.. So either someone forgot to ship the parts out, or they had no intentions of sending them.. I have no gripes with the KSG, lemons happen.. But I don't appreciate being re-assured multiple times that things were coming when they were never even sent out.. Even then those parts were a "maybe" to try before having to send it in for warranty work.. Just left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth thats all.

Good to hear yours is running without issues! It's still on my list to pick one up, however I'm going to wait a while and see if/when Gen 3 comes out.. It's an expensive experiment to hope the next one works because testing and trying and driving to a spot to shoot ate up alot of my spare time and at the end of it I ended up having to send it back anyways.. So Gen 3 is when I'll give it another shot.. For now I've picked up a spare 870 wingmaster that was traded in from an armoured car company that I'm going to beat on like a redheaded stepchild

if you're only gonna get one shotgun an 870 is the one, yep :) With it coming from an amoured car company, I wish that shotty could talk and tell us some stories of what it's seen :)

Yea I hear you, carried a lot but barely shot - but the times it was out I'm sure were a bit unnerving for the guy behind the gun.

Day one: First day on the job... The guy picked me up, spilled coffee on me and then put me into the rack.
Day two: The guy picked me up, spilled coffee on me and then put me into the rack.
Day three: The guy picked me up, spilled coffee on me and then put me into the rack.
Day four: The guy picked me up, spilled coffee on me and then put me into the rack.
Day five: The guy picked me up, spilled coffee on me and then put me into the rack.
Day six: The guy picked me up, spilled coffee on me and then put me into the rack.
