Really, really nice guns coming up for auction

Brass shells are not machined they are pressed in dies very quickly, a very heavy press drops on the dies the impact melts the brass and forces it in to the die form. CNC can make the dies then you need a big press.
Making a gun is easy making a cartridge is not.

They can be machined as well.

Using press dies is great for large runs. Tooling costs, to have the dies made, is very little of the overall cost, though it is expensive for a small run. Having the proggresive stamping presses is the cost of the operation!

For limited runs, CNC is pretty cost effective, just a PITA to get set up so that the case walls are correctly tapered, then they have to be correctly annealed or there will be problems with splits and separations. And the characteristics that make cartridge brass flow very well when run through a press die, somewhat work against decent machining qualities.

There are a couple small outfits supplying machined cases for hard to get rifle calibers.

Be interesting to see if you could put the stretch on some available 16G brass to expand it up to 14.

Cheers

How hard would brass shells be to make? We have CNC lathes at my work operated by a gunnut and I always figured I could get some made if I found a 14ga sxs.

Well the guy is makeing mine on a CNC Lathe in the USA but there $70 for 10 cases and there head stamped 14 Ga
I had to give him the exact size of my chamber every 1/8 inch so he gets them right.
I think you should try and make a few as i have had to wait months and there still not ready i ordered 20 Cases.
Cost me close to $180 with shipping ect.
My gun is so cool its worth the extra cost + my brass will last along time as they wont be crimped.
The guy has a web site in the USA but i cant remember the name.
he makes all kind of hard to get large brass cases.
If you can make them you should as i intend to get a few 14 Ga shotguns and will list a few in the EE

The one i have now is a SXS 14Ga with short barrels a real coach gun :D

Just thought I would post another comment to bring this thread back to the top...there are some really nice guns to be seen in the original post link..............:D

There's a pretty wide variety of different guns there; everything from double shotguns to Winchesters to full auto. More nice stuff than you can shake a stick at.

I like the Walter Chrysler Winchester Model 21; it isn't as gaudy as some of the other higher grade ones, like a Grand American.

FN Model Ds are nice; they're the ultimate refinement of the BAR with a quick change barrel.

I hope the MiG-21 comes with the GSh-23 cannon!
