Reaming out an 1100 to Mod choke. Any reason not too?

Pretty simple question really. I've got a nice condition 1100 with fix full choke. I thought I would get it reamed to modified choke to use as a sporting clays/waterfowl gun. It's the 2 3/4" version and the barrel does not have a vent rib. Is there any reason not to do it? I've got about $360 invested into it and reaming it would cost $50.

I do own an A400 that is my primary gun. This would be a back up or a buddy gun.

I had two of mine opened up. One is a 28" former FULL that is now modified 2 3/4". The other is a 30" former Full that is now Skeet Two or Light Modified. Made both guns much more versatile without any noticeable change to outward appearance. Opening chokes is about the cheapest option when it comes to barrel work on shotguns. Both guns are Remington 1100's.

I say go for it .you will have a much more versatile gun . its not like an rem 1100 is a hard to find gun or parts are hard to source ..
 
Go for it .I just had one if mine cut and thread threaded for tubes. Bit a ream job us cheaper way to go ..

If it were mine and I was going to purpose it as a waterfowl gun, I'd get it opened to Skeet 2 (light modified). It's a nice compromise between MOD and IC, or think of it as a choke that will kill birds over decoys and pass shooting reasonably well, without being perfect for either scenario. But for a do-it-all waterfowl choke, it's a great choice.

Yes. I had thought of this also. Especially since mod chokes tend to blow patterns when using the high speed steel loads that I like to shoot. And it would be a better choice for sporting clays also. I'll see what my gunsmith has for reamers.

These jobs are done with expanding (adjustable) reamers, so I'm sure he will be able to do this job if he's event remotely good at what he does.
