Rear Rest Recommendations

What make of front rest and rear bag you running? If you find you are way off from shot to shot, it could be the equipment or technique.
If the bottom of your rear bag is round that is an issue. A donut will help that as long as not to concave. Protektor are some of the best bags out there. I prefer tall ears, with slick fabric. My bag has a soft bottom and I use a donut. There are also bags with a thicker hard bottom. This will work as long as the bottom has a bit of a convex shape to it.

I'd like to try a Protektor flat base rest. Mines the non and resulting to making a flat base for it. Which means more stuff I need to bring.

No dealers/distributors in US had them in stock so I contacted the MFG directly.

There are two revisions, based on some online reviews I ordered the older rev1 with narrow contact points. Turned out I would be just fine with rev2 wider "V" as well, I did a 3d print (visible in the picture).

(the sticker - 60mm is from my one-piece-rest, the height between front arca to rear sled "V" contact points. With these 3d printed parts I got very close to that number, but my front tripod gimbal has an adjustable height clamp anyway)

I had also a post bi***ing both the sender and UPS about brokerage fees, which finally I refused to pay it to UPS and did myself in person at CBSA office

Ah yes, I forgot this.
I got sick and tired of repacking the sand in the soft rear bags, 20-50 shots and the grit packs hard. I wanted to have adjustment at rear (below my cheek) instead of front and this how I came up with idea front tripod and rear adjustable rest.
The windage/elevation travel covers the N50 5x5 card fully, for 22LR cards plenty of room left.

First time out to the 100 M range today with this new to me 308 project gun.
This scope got a dual purpose between my .25 FX Impact MK2, was zeroed @ 100 M with 34 gn pellets.
I decided to put 20 MOA on the rings and zero MOA on 308 picatiny rail, for test the dual purpose, and this actually turned out pretty well.
What I was afraid how Rem 700 manufacturing drilled/tapped the four holes for pic rail, turns out very acceptable.
Checked the 308 on 50 M paper and ran to 100 M rings, I am happy, only 1 MOA L-R in between these two distances... but, off center !!!
Next to shoots some groups @ 200 and 300, and I go from there.

But I have a concern. The gun jumps from a shot to the Left of POI.
Yes, I am using a tripod+gimbal combo (arca rail not clamped can slide Fw-Rw easy), the tripod legs filled with #9 lead shots to make it bottom heavy, and the leg screws have a bite into the plywood. I think the front is still not heavy enough.

What else to try?
I have some lead weights (from scuba diving belt weights) I can slide into arca rail, or I can recast lead rods to slide inside the CF tripod legs....
Or, to install weights on forend, both sides?

I ordered a PQP rear mechanical rest directly from Precision Quest Products in February 2023. It was shipped through the postal system and arrived without issue.

I looked at their website, but there is no way to order from Canada. Was it always like this, if so, how did you proceed with your order?

Looking through past records, my initial inquiry about the PQP rest was made on Feb. 18, 2023. I asked about shipping to Canada.
I got this response on Feb 19, the following day:
"A customer support staff member has replied to your support request, #493026 with the following response:
We are very sorry, we are getting I.T to take that off of our website. We no loner ship interantionally.
"

The next day, Feb. 20, I got this unsolicited message from Dan Killough. "I can ship the rest directly to you. What is the full shipping address so I can get you a shipping quote?" The shipping was $50 USD. I ordered.

It arrived uneventfully at my local post office depot where, as I recall, I picked it up after I paid duty.

It is possible that since then PQP will not ship out of the US. If that is the case, I would think that since rifles can be imported to Canada from suppliers south of the border who can't ship internationally, so, too, can a non-firearm item such as this.

May 30th email from "Dan Killough <support@precisionqp.com>"
.....................................................................
Total is 299 USD,
That is shipping via UPS for estimated arrival of Thursday June 6 if shipped today.
If this is agreeable,
I will email you an invoice that will have a link that you can submit payment via credit card.
Just let me know if you would like to proceed.
That is 275 for rest, 24 for shipping using UPS Standard Worldwide.
Best shipping price I have seen on shipping out of the USA.

Thank you,

Dan Killough

As a side note, I had an emotional discussion with UPS regards to a brokerage fee, ended up visiting/paying the CBSA in person.

Heres another adjustable option using your rear bag.
Can't recall where I got it though, and there's no name on it. )Not helpful I know, but maybe somebody will recognise.....)
