I have a Voere 270w, 1969 vintage which is basically a Mauser 98 action(has thumb notch on left above magazine) Anyway although it has a scope on it, the rear sight was off it when I purchased it and as the original came with the gun, I'd like to reattach it for appearance as there's an unsightly patch of solder glaring at you, saying...DO SOMETHING'....lol
I was told it was originally attached by solder(not silver solder) and I'm competant enough to carry this out, however it would affect the bluing in that area, requiring some bluing 'touch up'(which seldom ever matches the original blue).
So my question is what about using a high grade epoxy? Surely with proper preparation this would do as well as solder? And what attracts me is, no change to the finish.
Just to clarify, this is the base of the rear sight, curved to match the barrel and about 1 3/4" long. The actual rear sight is dove tailed in this base.
Feed back appeciated.

There is a cyanoacrylate adhesive called Loctite Black Max listed on the Brownell's website, as follows:
BLACK MAX #380 ADHESIVE - Instantly glue on shotgun sights, sight ramps or make fast repairs to vent ribs and beads. Adheres instantly, cures fast. Toughened with elastomers for greater resistance to impact and vibration, and for increased shear strength. Flat black color.
which sounds like it might do the trick. Not sure where to get this in Canada but industrial suppliers might carry it. I doubt that Canadian Tire will carry it.

There is a story on Steve Redgwell's website (303british.com) entitled "Saving a Burnt-out Jungle Carbine where, as part of the refit, the gunsmith at XS Sights used an epoxy (probably AcraGlas) to attach a scout-type scope rail to the rifle, so a good epoxy should work.
