Rear sight elevator at max falling out?

Sighted iron sighted rifle but elevator is at max elevation knotch number 5. Lots of pressure from rear sight but apprehensive it may fall out when hunting. Anyone have experience with this.

My Savage mk2 has a rear sight w/sliding elevator. I have a scope on it so I don't use the rear sight, but I've spent a good amount of time carrying that rifle or having it strapped to my pack and the elevator is still there.

lol, you don’t want to leave the rifle the way it is, and you don’t want to fix it the proper way (because you might have to take 3 or 4 shots to sight it in again) … what kind of magical solution are you hoping to get from the forum? Other than use electrical tape or a rubber band?

Sorry, I’m not trying to be rude, I just really don’t understand why you wouldn’t want to fix it properly. Having no more room to adjust elevation is no good. You should be in the middle on your ramp for average conditions. Then you can adjust up or down as needed for closer or longer shots.

Maybe it's just me, but isn't the elevator in backwards? Or the wrong one? Or in backwards because it's the wrong one?

Your signature line says you hate bead sights. So you likely have a patridge blade front sight. The beauty of those front blades is that they can be shortened with a file and one minute of effort.
Use a caliper to measure the exact difference in height from the last notch of your elevator to the middle notch. Scribe a thin line on the front sight to lower it that exact amount. File the front sight shorter. Shoot and confirm. Done.

I’m gonna file sight down tomorrow. The elevator up there at the end makes me think it can get bumped or something and get lost
