I want to adjust my rear sight, I drifted it a couple times and it didn't move. I was just wondering if there is a set screw from underneath? or do I just need to hit it harder? Any sujestions would help thanks
Sight removal is very difficult on the XD, but it can be done. I remember reading about it on the webpage XD talk. My advice: do a little research before you get the hammer out. The XD’s are great guns but if something breaks getting Springfield to fix it when we live in Canada is a real chore.
I kinda think it is unlikely the sights are out of alignment, as they are tested at the factory in a machine rest. If your shots are going left or right, it is more than likely a shooter issue.
I changed my XD40 sights and I can tell you there are no pins or set screws to worry about.
I used a steel punch (3/8" if memory serves) and a 5LB ball peen hammer.
I beat the bejesus into it to get it off, and there is hardly a mark on the sight.
Good luck 'drifting' it.
If you are keeping the sight, I'm not suggesting to use a steel punch to drift. As I was changing the sight anyhow, and didn't care what condition it ended up in, I used a STEEL punch to REMOVE it.
Like I said, they are extremely tough to move, so be prepared to destroy a bit of brass to do it.
Agreed. The rear sight can be adjusted with a brass punch and a heavy swing. I adjusted mine, thinking that the sights were out (consistantly shooting left). I ended up putting them right back to the way they were. It was me, not the sights. I confirmed this by shooting from a rest. Are you sure it's not you?
thanks for your help I was able to knock it over with a brass punch and a heavy hit, I' don't know if its me or the gun but I can shoot alot better with it now
My XD is shooting left as well, any ideas what I might be doing wrong for this? Holding too tight/not tight enough, incorrect posture or grip? Not squeezing the trigger properly?

You are probably gripping it too tight. If you do a search on here someone has a pistol chart that tells you if you are shooting in a certain direction consistantly it could be this..
As long as it's consistantly shooting one direction then use the chart. If it's every now and then. check you technique and sight alignment.
