First off I'm new here so hello to all. Now this may be a dumb question but why is there a 10 round limit on a handgun mag? I don't understand the difference between one that holds 10 and one that hold 12 or 14. I'm going to do my PAL/RPAL in the spring and being new to the scene my buddy in North Carolina suggested as a starter to look into the Walther PPQ 9mm. I looked into it and realized the barrel is too short by our laws so I was looking at the PPQ .40 not to purchase just looking at specs now and the barrel is long enough but it holds 12 rounds in the mag. Can somebody explain to me why the extra 2 bullets makes this a prohibited weapon.

or why I can only have 5 rds in my semi auto rifles LOL d:h:

The truth is it makes no sense, and you will need therapy if you try figure it out.

You are talking Rational Thinking by Politicians.
Now if your going to start with rational thinking I am going to have to speak with the administration and see about getting you banned!
( did the tongue in cheek sarcasm come through? )
Just be thankfull it wasnt one round per.
Tight Groups,
Rob

i HEARD that part of the reasoning of being capped at 10 rounds was to give police an extra advantage in any type of shootout situation as they have higher capacity mags...

Don't flame me! Just something I heard, I don't stand behind it at all but it was the only opinion I heard that shed any logical reasoning to a portion of our absolutely DUMB gun laws!

...end .2 cents here...

It was just another way to make firearms ownership inconvieniant so they did it. They didnt need any other logic or reason.

Mid 1990's Liberal party logic. They felt good about making things fractionally illegal.

They kept the .22s, banned the 25s and 36s (Have I got that right?)
and kept the .357s, .38s, .40, .44s, .45s and .50s.
I'm sure I missed a few.
Don't even try to think what about those two calibers makes them deadlier and scarier than the rest.

Baking Powder??? Squeeze Me??? The criminals already don't obey the laws and have illegally acquired unregistered handguns, what makes you think they will comply with the 10 round mag limit? They will get their normal fully capacity magazines the same place they get their firearms, through the criminal channel of nefarious means. No Flaming.

The Government's only intent was to take as many guns out of the hands of the law abiding gun owner as possible. This way, if they catch you with a normal capacity magazine of 11 rounds (or more) for your handgun, not only can they take your 25's and 32's, but every gun you own and give you a weapons prohibition as a bonus.

To the OP, welcome to the wonderful world of legal gun ownership in Canada. Feel like a criminal yet? That is their intent with all their laws and hoops.

Hmmmmm, How many mags can you have?

You can have all the mags you want! provided its pinned at 10 or made to capacity of 10!

An no the .25 .32 cals as i remember correctly the "excuse" given by the libs at the time was ".25's .32's were preferred criminal calibers" "Which was usually chambered in their mid-night special of choice" Which is B.S. What was funny right after the 1995 legislation came into law. They had to exempt the .32 for Olympic training. Because the .32 was the preferred cal to train in able body Olympics.

Anyone who owned these cal were to have them destructed or it became a wall hanger or safe queen prohib.

The Antiques you speak of are any handgun percussion or flint made till present day. Or any handgun made before 1889 "correct me if wrong" its close to 89? That is not chambered in 32 l/s .45 C .38 .44-40 .44mag. so on.
