Reasoning behind 10 round handgun mags?

The Government's only intent was to take as many guns out of the hands of the law abiding gun owner as possible. This way said:
x2
There goal was and still is to disarm us. Right now "Dad lib Mguinty feels we cant handle handguns anymore" He is calling the feds to have "nationwide handgun ban amended into C-19" Fight for your rights!

Can somebody explain to me why the extra 2 bullets makes this a prohibited weapon.

Luckily it does not, it only makes the magazine, if unpinned to 10; a prohibited device. Example, you can have a Glock 17, with it's 17 round magazine-just it needs to be pinned to 10 rounds. We can have full 30 round magazines for the CZ-858... pinned to 5 rounds. You can even have that prohibited handgun, as long as it's not prohibited by name; and you get a barrel for it that's the legal restricted length. Like those Makarov's that have showed up lately, or the Glock 19. The only way to change it is write letters, make phone calls, join the CSSA, NFA, and help us change back to original capacity magazines!

Wow got a lot of responses fast..thanks peoples. So what you're saying is it's 10 rounds per mag "just cuz..mind your own business..we own you". So because the Walther PPQ .40 has a 12 round mag you won't find it for sale in Canada? Can a retailer not order guns like these in with a 10 or pinned at 10?

The logic behind the 32 and 25 pohibition was it covered the vast majority of small, short barreled concealable, and most importantly cheap, self defense guns. The "saturday night specials" if you will.

that just happened to be perfect for a woman's smaller grip. "Gun control: It's a feminist issue."

and to the OP: mags are limited to 10, because the 11th bullet is the evil baby-killer bullet....

They should be able to get the 10 round mags. California also has a 10 round limit, so most manufacturers already make 10 rounders.

The reason is simple. Eleven is a bigger number. Nine just sounds funny, and eight is right out of the question. Plus five and ten are easy numbers to count, five fingers on each hand, and polititians aren't good at math. I would have chosen a fraction myself. Something like 13 & 4/7 rounds. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Yeah, of it was 20, RCMP would have to take their boots off to count them. Embarrassing as hell, and if it were 21, then only the male officers could count them, and they'd have to drop their pants to do it!

i HEARD that part of the reasoning of being capped at 10 rounds was to give police an extra advantage in any type of shootout situation as they have higher capacity mags...

Thats bullshiite. Anyone who has ever been around to watch members requalify with their firearms can tell you that even if they had 100 rounds in their firearms they still wouldn't have an advantage........:ninja:

Heck there was a female member that failed on her second qualifying attempt here that threw BOTH her earmuffs and her LOADED FIREARM to the ground after she failed to qualify last year. I felt life offering her a crying towel, but that would have been meanLaugh2

I can't imagine throwing a loaded pistol to the ground as being a good thing, but that's just me. Maybe I'm being an insensetive ###ist prick, but an RCMP officer treating a loaded firearm with that kind of disregard for safety should either be a meter maid, or a pine-riding desk jockey.

IMHO

What makes it more funny and hypocritical is the C-96 has an exception. So does the Lee-Enfield and the Garand (not that I am complaining... awesome firearms).

Exception for mag caps? A Lee Enfield is a bolt therefore no limit so an exception is pointless, what's the exception for a Garand?

Not long ago we had recieved a shippment of Sig 226X5 comp 9mm with the original 17 round magazines by mistake. When I tried to register them CFC wouldnt do it till we got the 10 round mags in. They sat here waiting for them for over 2 months because Sig USA was out and had to order them from Germany. So yes we can order all handguns with 10round mags. You can buy them with the larger mag but that makes them a prohib.

The enbloc clip in a Garand holds 8 rounds as originally designed. They gave that exception to the Garand (8 instead of 5 rounds in a semi-auto) instead of creating a new enbloc.

At least that's how I understand the reasoning.

And I'm trying to find a 30 round mag for my Enfield. That would be awesome! :p

Actually it is because the polititians love us gun owners and our guns so much that they didn't want us to wear out our guns too fast. Having mag limits prevents shooting of long strings and the accompanying barrel wear. And you thought the poititians didn't care.

Actually that makes a lot of sense. May be the same reason for the Mauser C-96 exception too?
