I need some advice on how to correctly reassemble a Savage A22/B22 10 round rotary magazine. I took it apart to clean because it was binding and not feeding well but when I tried to put it back together I couldn’t figure out how to add tension to the spring. I can reassemble it and it’ll rotate but the mechanism doesn’t have any spring tension and will misfeed. I’d appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

You have to put more tension on the spring BEFORE you put the ends back on. I've done many of the 22lr ones, I assume they're made the same. Hope this helps - don't wind it too tight.

Buck 1950 - thank you! This is exactly what I needed. I figured out most of this but was having trouble figuring out how to hold the red bullet holder under spring tension while reattaching it. It seems like I need a third hand. I’ll give this a try. Much appreciated.

London, Glad this can help. I usually keep my third-hand hidden
I made the doc up a while back when many people on Savageshooters were dissing the rotary B22 vs stick MKIIs. When completed its very easy to reload mags. I even made a YT-vid of me doing it 'one-handed' while filming via phone.

I was disassembly my 1st mag back in 2019. My procedure is similar, but I keep the mag oriented up. Placing the rotor spring into the metal (rear) portion. Green tab is then down. Then rotate the rotor to wind it up - hold with index finger. Bring the other half into the rotor. You only have to maintain the winding tension with fingers until the green tab is behind the rotor "stop". There are options for the wind pre-tension, so you can try until you like it.

My biggest issue with the mag is the rotor material is not ideal & not available as a spare. I conveyed this to Savage feedback, along with a couple other suggestions. Suggested a tech guy could contact me. Crickets.

Even with shortcomings, I still find this a very good rifle. A few changes & it could easily be the best semi 22.

legion, thanks for 'liking' that old post. As I said I made it for using the mags in my Savage B22-FV and it's the same mag as the A-22. BTW, the 25-round mags in 22LR run in the B-22 as well as the A-22, they have a 'tab' that pulls the follower down, making loading even easier. They are a bit longgg but I just 're-tested' last week in my B22-FV and still run OK. They get in the way for bench shooting tho. I put an Athlon Argos 8-34x56 FFP scope on the B-22 and got some 0.2xx 50-yd groups. I sold my A-22 years ago, I hated the 're-set CLUNK' but I got the trigger down to about 2# with a Varmint T-spring.
