Im going to be putting a new barrel on my ruger american rifle, as this is the action that i have chose for a super light weight hunter build. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience or had any trouble doing this before. It has a barrel nut, but it is my understanding that it isnt the same threads as a savage. Any information would be great.

thanks

I haven't heard of anyone making "spin on " barrels for this rifle so its a job for any smith capable of threading and chambering a barrel. On a rebarrel job the nut need not be used as the barrel could be fitted the same as on a Winchester or Remington with a shoulder. There are a couple of smiths in Saskatoon who could do the job. Good luck on your project.

The Ruger American has only been on the market for 3 years. Be surprised if there's anything aftermarket made for it. Like hunter5425 says, you'll need a smithy.
Its threads wouldn't have anything to do with a Savage.

I'm curious as to why you chose the Ruger American to do a custom build?

As sunray said, here's probably no aftermarket parts for them.

A Remington or Savage action would make a lot more sense.

As stated before, very nice and solid 3 lug bolt, and really I just liked everything about it. I'm not worried about the stock being flimsy because I probably won't be shooting off a bipod. Wouldn't call it a cheap rifle. Just inexpensive
