Rebarrel 338 federal or 358 win ?

Not sure why BC matters in these two cartridges. You have one because you want a close up to medium range thumper. I like two holes in animals I shoot and plane old Hornady Interlock 200gr in the 358 work perfectly from 10 yards to over 200 on Black Bears, Whitetail and my first Manitoba Muley:)

Agree totally on the b.c. rationale. In my mind if you are going to run light for caliber in a 338 you may as well just have a 308!

The .338 Fed is cute and all, but it's hard to find pink camo... you best choose a cartridge that wears big britches... like a .358 of some sort.

There be the 375 Raptor option now that tops the 338 Fed & 358 Win for big critter hunts. Real simple to resize & trim 308 win brass to length, then play with loads.
I'm mighty tempted to do a conversion on a light compact bolt rifle in the 375.

^ every time this comes up I say it. If anyone gets a reamer and or go/no go gauges for prefits for the 375 raptor I want to rent or buy them

I don’t think it’s ever going to happen. But it was designed to have the dies work with 308 brass for a reason.

If we lived in a free country a lightweight ar in that chambering would be something else. They do mention rebarreling takedown BLR

A model 7 or 84m with peeps sights would be a heck of a “carried a lot, shot a little” gun

So having spent all those years in the More is Better school... why not do the same thing on a 30 SAUM or WSM case, and be somebody, and actually have something? ; ) You could even neck either one of those cases to 8mm, and really do it up right...

Rman; I think Douglas had a 375 or 366 wsm, I’ve seen a few articles on wildcatting the wsm case where really impressive velocities were achieved with increase in bullet diameter over 325. Won’t get you the mag capacity of the 308 case though.

My attachment to 8mm dies with the x57 mm case though. I can’t say 325 wsm BLRs don’t tempt me; but I’ve always had my eye on a 35 Sambar.

160 grain Barnes .338 TTSX gets some speed, expands, and performs very well. And I'm no Barnes fan...
If you want light and fast...not sure if that is pink cammo territory or not, but it does kill critters pdq.

My Tikka T3 22.4 barrel With lots of 2230 powder sends a 160 TTSX at over 3000 fps ! Lab Radared ! Amazing Cartridge . RJ

Even CHUCK. Would be impressed ! ;) RJ

Between the .358 Win and the .338 Fed the Win’s always made more sense to me. The Fed can only use the light end of .338 bullets, where the .358 is right at home with the range of .358 bullets. The .308 will run up to 200grs, muting the Fed’s point in my eyes. This said, it’s hung in there over the years to my surprise and clearly is enjoyed by a good few.

Maybe but doesn't 338 fed or 358 win sound way kooler than boring old 308!

Got to have something to chat about at camp!
