I recently traded for a Sako AII in 308 and it's a great gun but I prefer 7mm 08.
Would it be worth it to have it rebarreled to 7mm 08?
I haven't shot it yet but might keep it after I go to the range.

I like the Sako's and they seem to fit me. I now have a Sako AI in 223, AII in 308, and a AIII Mannlicher in 270. They all fit and have a palm swell in the stock. I have mostly 7 X 57's on my rack and hunt with a Remington 700 BDL in 7mm 08.

What do you think about the idea of rebarreling it to 7mm 08?

Does anyone have a Sako 7mm 08 barrel lying around that will fit on this gun?
I would like to have a blue Sako barrel, to keep it all sako. Less work for the gunsmith.

If you can find a factory take off in 7-08 I don't think it would cost alot, but if you go the custom route I'm guessing $600 would be a good number to start with. It's been a long time since I've had any rebarreling done so perhaps someone else can give you a number. I for sure would shoot it first and see what you think. It would suck to find out it puts 5rds in a 1/4" from the guy you flogged it to. I used to have a nice little sako with the palm swell and sporter weight barrel with open sights, it was a very nice gun, but for hunting I really can't see much of a practical difference, at 500yds and beyond yes. Is it a sporter or a heavy barrel, what application will the rifle be used for?

7-08

The 7-08 is a very accurate calibre on average with a line of bullets that have great B.C. I personally like the 7-08 more than the 308 but I also mostly deer hunt where the 308 is a better large game cal.

I'd shoot it first. I don't think there is a whole lot of difference between a 308 and an 708. I was looking for a 7-08 last year, ended up getting a good deal here in a Kimber in 308 and I am keeping it.

308 or 7mm-08.....owned and hunted with both and each will Kill critters under 300 meters Deader then Jim Zumbo's career !

The 7mm-08 does it with a slightly faster, lighter bullets...the 308 has abit of frontal area and mass in it's favour....Both are Great Performers on game and need no hype from me.

Given the choice between them I'd go with the Lil 7 as well ! It's just Cooler

Find out how much diff on a trade in for another Sako. Might be cheeeepert than a new bbl, plus resale would be higher on the 7mm/o8.
