Rebarrel or Rebore?

I've got a 270 win (Sako) -- considering options on it.... I don't know much about reboring.... would it be better to rebore or rebarrel from 270 win to 35 whelen? The action is an L61R.

How much does reboring tend to cost?

ps - the barrel is one of the heavier post 72 (garcia import) style.

Rebarrel it. Reboring requies a smithy who has the skill and machinery to do it.

I had a 99 Savage in .308 converted to .358. Initially, I was going to have it rebarreled, but was convinced by the outfit handling the conversion, to have it rebored. It was less expensive...took a while as I had to wait my turn at the barrel maker, but it worked out very satisfactorily.

Any barrel maker should rebore that 270 for you. Prob. at a cost close to a new barrel, however, it will fit your stock as is. I have had several barrels rebored, only 1 was screwed up in the process. M+S stocking in Leader Sk. does this work, but I don't know anything about their work. He has Al Pedersen's barrel boring machine. Mark

My .308 to .358W conversion was handled by Corlane Sports in Dawson Creek, and Ron Smith did the barrel rebore.

Reboreing if by far cheaper and a good way to go butI had a Sako LR61 that i was going to get Ron Smith to rebore to 35.He told me he would not rebore a Sako as the barrels are to hard and it ruins his reamer.So you are stuck with a barrel job.
