does anyone know whether or not a north american made barrel will fit properly onto the norc upper?

no the old norqs are metric threaded

Yes but the Norc will need to be re-threaded! The sae threads can be re-cut on the Norc, try Roger Kotanko in Pt Dover! He did mine!

You simply use the Chinese barrel nut. I've done a bunch of these both for customers and for my self. What did you have in mind?

Yes, like has been stated, you use the Norc barrel nut. I had a YHM upper on mine, you swap barrel nuts. Norc upper+Norc barrel nut. and vice versa

wanted to put a 14.5 inch barrel on it
