I've been told that the P-17 is an excellant action to start with. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a re barreling job?:) I'm in no hurry to get it done as I have plenty of other bang sticks to play with.

Unless you need the long action to make up a super duper magnum of some sort you would be better off to start with a sporting action. The conversion costs on old military actions are very high if you want to have it done properly.

Even getting a sporting action set up with a new barrel and stock is not a cheap proposition--I just had a 35 Whelen done on a Win M-70 action and when the dust settled the cost is over $1,000 including the donor action, stock, barrel-chambering, fitting and blueing.

Do a search. It's been beat to death, and everything you need to know is in those posts.
FWIW- the rebarrel job req's square threads cut, and be careful removing the old one, they are friggin tight, and many actions have been twisted.

is the bore god on the M17?
if so just make it a 300 or 308 norma mag
then its just a rechamber and open the bolt face
some minor work to the feed lips and a new stock ....and bobs your uncle

ad #### on open and a good trigger WOW thats sounding pretty good!!:D
