Rebarreling CX4

Everyone talks about the option of getting the Beretta CX4 rebarreled and made non restricted, and yet I note that not many people actually get it done.

Who in Canada (preferably Western) does this work?
How much does it cost?
How has it effected Accuracy?
How has it effected the bullet speed?

This is not a debate over why to get this done or why to not choose this weapon, however constructive criticism about this weapon platform will be gratefully accepted.

I've got no RPAL or range membership (thus far), so I had a CX4 re-barreled non-restricted prior to being transferred to me. It is my most-fired gun thus-far. Just too much damn FUN plinking pop cans with it! :)


Not sure on speed, but I suspect it increases velocity slightly.
 
I am trying to find a threaded non-restricted heavy barrel for mine...Elwood Epps is my only lead so I sent them an email. I like those guys, bought a glock a while back. If I have any success or news regarding it I will post it here. I would also like to hear from people who have had it done, who they used and how much it costs.

alright so Elwood Epps and Bits of Pieces for gunsmiths but no estimates for prices. Keep it coming so we can all get a great deal.
 
Here is the response from Elwood (really fast response time):

Total cost to rebarrel and re-register a Beretta CX4 Storm to Non-Restricted status is $500.00. This includes fabrication of a 19" barrel, and submission of the required paperwork to the Canadian Firearms Registry to reclassify the rifle as a Non-Restricted firearm.We require 2-3 months to fabricate, fit, and blue barrels for CX4 Storm carbines. It is best if we have your rifle in our store during this time to ensure proper fitting of the barrel to the receiver.Threading of the muzzle is available at an additional cost of $75.00 for this service


It aint cheap...but it is tempting!
 
very very tempting indeed, but 2-3 months...

guess I will just have to find some other gun to obsess over in that time,

still loking for other smiths and prices to compare to.
 
I may wait until the registry is scrapped (or not scrapped). If it is scrapped it is 100 percent worth it. If not, it is a pretty hefty price tag. Hopefully someone gets a better quote! Or a cgn group discount ;)
 
prices are nice to know, but where is equally important, gunsmiths can't take my money if I don't know where I'm sending it.
 
I bought mine several years ago from Epps as an in-stock, non-restricted firearm. At that time they were apparently converting and re-registering enough of them that it made sense to keep a couple in stock in the non-restricted configuration. I don't know if they still do it this way, and I assume that they would have mentioned it in their email to you if they did, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. As I recall, the price back then was in the vicinity of $1150 - $1200.

I have no way to compare the accuracy or velocity to the restricted version, but I will say that the accuracy with loads it likes is way better than I expected out of this type of gun...2 MOA at 100 yards with some loads when scoped. An absolute ton of fun, and now, with a Holosight, my go-to gun for feral cats and other problem critters around the barn.

Whether or not the Conservative government scraps the long gun registry is irrelevant to the price to have a CX4 Storm rebarreled to Non-Restricted.

First, the guns are sold as Restricted firearms, therefore the initial classification will not change.

Second, the price I quoted to the member who has posted my response was for the barrel itself, and for the labour and shop charges required to fabricate, fit, and reblue the barrel. The reclassification and re-registration does not carry any additional fee.

Truly, this issue has been discussed TO DEATH here on these boards, with a resurrection of the same questions appearing every few weeks or so.

What I meant about the increased value of a non-restricted without a registry, is that without a registry, having a non restricted firearm would be even more appealing to me. I did not mean that it would effect the cost of the work or product.

Secondly, I did not intend to post your response to me as a breach of confidentiality, but rather to pass on the information as it is unavailable from any other source. I hope it was not taken as an indiscretion on my part.

No indiscretion was implied. I was simply making certain that the prices and procedures were clear to all. We have had several inquiries over the past few months concerning prices for this type of work and possible changes once the registry is doused. We are making every attempt to clarify where those prices are coming from, and what services they represent.

I am uncertain what relevance the registry might have on your decision to purhase or own a Non-Restricted firearm, but I am certain that you do have your own justification for this arrangement.
