Rebarreling/reboring Weatherby Vanguard 1

My first hunting rifle (first gen fudd, came to it late in life) was a Vanguard 1 in 270.

I've outgrown it, and I've been trying to sell it, but no takers in months of trying.

So now I'm thinking maybe it'd make a nice 9.3x62 or 35 Whelan.

Just thinking about it... I've heard Vaguards are the devil to get apart, so I'm interested to hear you guys' thoughts.

.35 wheel an is a straight up barrel replacement. Any gunsmith should be able to do that for you.

All fine and dandy if you can find a barrel.i have looked for a couple months and they just don't seem to exist. That is not just true for whelen , but any vanguard barrels in general.

Thanks for the replies, but I'm not expecting to find a Weatherby Vanguard take-off barrel in 35 Whelan or 9.3x62, as Howa has never made either of those calibers that I'm aware of. Also, I think the bolt face for 270, having 30-06 as a parent cartridge, will also work for 9.3x62. If not, then Whelan it is. I'm pretty sure either will work.

You will likely have to go with a blank and have it threaded to fit. Mine is .30/06 and I have been thinking .25/06, .280 or maybe the .whelen but I think cost is going to deter me as an aftermarket barrel is almost as much as the rifle and then to add associated costs, may not be feasible.
