Rebarrelling a 300 win mag to .303 british

Was just cycling the 300 win mag with the 303 br snap caps. They cycle great when moving the bolt fast. They don't extract due to them just rocketing into the 300 mags chamber. It seems the 303snap caps just love the internal mag, not sure if the 303 being around 3/8 of an inch shorter would be much of an issue.

Look for a post WWII BSA sporterised P14 in 303 Brit. All the work is done, may already come with a flattened 5rds mags box. Feeds, shoots, mostly drilled and tapped for scope rail. win receivers are always the best choice but others, including Eddystone can be just fine too.

At a gunshow in good quality.... around $200.

Can you build what you want, of course. Want to throw upwards of $1000 at this project?

And then all you end up with is a semi custom $250 rifle...

I have played with a bunch of 303 British. Then I moved to the 308 Win and life just got so much simpler.

If you are feeling nostalgic, why not just grab a Mosin Nagant? All the rimmed goodness with great after market trigger, and upcoming accessories. Upfront cost is zip and they can shoot very nicely for an old workhorse.

Jerry has it right... it is going to cost a lot and when completed worth considerably less... and rimless cases are inherently more accurate than rimmed cases... and the 30 caliber bullet choice is far superior to .311' bullets... but it's your money...

Thanks for the advice. I have been looking at the p 14, there are some real nice ones out there. I will haunt the gun shows until I get to shoulder one. Until then I'm gonna try and learn about chambering and barrel fitting incase one day I give this project a go.
Thanks again for all the advice.

I picked up a beater P14 this spring, looks like hell but it shoots 1 1/2" groups at 100 with the old irons. As soon as funds permit I'll be getting a stock from Boyds and have it tapped for a scope. Some will scream at this but you can't restore all the old sporters. The stocks are available in two colours of laminate or walnut. I really like the look of those 'pepper' ones. Should be far more cost effective than rebarreling.
