Rebarrelling a 700 in 22-250

I would like to re barrel my Remington 700 in 22-250 for coyote and would like to know if anybody knows if there is someplace that sells basic barrels cheap. Someone told me there are gunsmiths in this country that make upgraded rifles for the military and police, that sell the original barrels for fraction of the initial cost. Thanks
 
I will have a bbl for sale shortly, if you are interested. It is currently out west at the smith where I am getting the action re-tubed to a larger chambering.

Was originally a 700 SPS stainless 223 bbl. 1:12" twist, reg sporter contour. I had the markings removed and rechambered for 22/250. Was very accurate and would make a good coversion for a lightweight sporter.

Yes, and most of them won't stabilize the heavier bullets. I have two of them, one will do Sierra 69 gr bullets and the other won't group anything over 55 gr well. I also have a 1-9 223 that does up to 75 gr well. I have two 22-250's, one is 1-14, not sure about the other, but they both are hell on coyotes with 53 gr BTHP's out to about 400 yds or so. - dan
 
Thanks for all the info guys. Seems a few people have these sitting around at home. I'm wondering with the higher twist rates I need to use smaller weight bullets? Or higher loads?

a 14 twist shoots 55gr. vmax just fine....got pretty close to 3800fps with 8208 (published max load from hogdon)

Depends what bullet you want to shoot...probably wont' find my cheap take off 22-250 pipes with a faster twist that that one but there's no harm in looking around.
 
My .22-250 stabilizes the 60 grain Sierra HP out to 400 yards tested as well as 300 and 200 (tested as well).
For rebarrelling, when required, I have a .223 barrel with a 1 in 12 twist and my gunsmith says it will work. I am not interested in going beyond the 60 grain bullet.
 
I think the 1-14 will not stabilize the new 53 grain Hornady with the .290 BC. 1-12 will, so I've heard. I've had great success with 55 grainers in my 1-14's in the past but I keep hearing that new 53 gr won't work.
 
I'm very sure I could find a coyote load for a 22/250 with 1:12" twist.

I've shot 70gr Speers in my 22/250 and 223 with good results.

I would be surprised but sounds like this needs to be tested. I dont' have a 14 twist 22-250 anymore but I have a 222 that does and I have 53gr. vmax in my hovel...
 
If I had a 12 twist .22-250, I'd do two things.

1) Thank the guy upstairs its not a 14 twist
2) Load 68 BTHP Hornadys as fast as I could zing them and carry on.
