Rebirth of a precision Lion killer

Nice Rick!

Got to love a well built 300 Win....A personal favorite for sure!:D

How much for the ceramicoat? How is the durability?

We were very surprised at how tough the Ceramicoat really is. With this rifle I left the barrel long, coated it before shooting it. In the field I found that the longer barrel gave me an undesireable barrel lift which smacked me in the cheek, so I took the gun apart chucked the barrel in the lathe and cut some barrel off, at the same time recrowned it and turned the barrel with threads for the brake, then contoured the brake.
The whole time the barrel is turning in the steady rest at 300 plus rpm, total time about 1.5 hours. The surprising part was that the Ceramicoat was only slightly burnished for where it was running on the steady rest. I figured before I started I would need to fully strip it and recoat it, but did not need to.:D
It will mark, but you have to work at it a bit.
We are charging $200.00 to do all the metal on a bolt rifle.

After nearly 40 years of reloading it still gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside when I find a load that TRULY works.
I agree reloading is a God send, I find it good relaxation therapy, and then I get to go shoot some more:D

Nice work rick. What powder, primer, bullet and case combo are you using? And does this combo seem to shoot well in all your 300 WM rifles?

I lucked out and managed to scrounge the last of the Lapua 300 win mag brass when they discontinued it.:(
Using the Lapua brass, 72.0 gr of Vitavhouri N560 215M Federal primer and 208 gr Amaxs is where I found magic.
Given the Lapua brass not being available any longer I am keeping the little I have for this rifle, but when time permits will be trying loads similar in my other 300s but with Nosler or Winchester casings I that I have for them.

I don't think it is a good idea to keep all the same brass for 4 different rifles, the chances of something negative happening by putting the right ammo in the wrong rifle are too high.

PLease note
My chambers are very tight and factory chambers are not. Different brass will result in big differences in pressure as well.
Just because it works in my rifle does not mean it will in yours, so proceed with caution especially if using different casings.
