Rebluing Winchester Model 12

I have a model 12 that has been re blued. Apparently something to do with the nickel content in the steel, but the bluing came out more of a plum than a true blue. It actually looks very nice, but you should be aware (mine is a fairly early model 12). It was like that when I got it, so I don't know much more than what I read somewhere

If you want it cheap then do it yourself with cold blue - I suggest OXFO Blue or give it to someone local but be advised that a bubba job of polishing or blueing will severely devalue your gun. Many blue jobs come out much blacker than the original Winchester blueing so have a close look at some results before you commit to anyone in western Canada.

If you want it done RIGHT and looking like a new Model 12 then send it to Simmons Gun Specialties in Olath Kansas for a good-as-new blue job. Check out their web site anyway - they specialize in working on Model 12's.
