reboring a barrel of a Baikal single shot double rifle express

Yeah, that needs clarification. You'll be hard pressed to find someone who can rebore a double rifle, but a single barrel can be done by Ron Smith. Cost is few hundred.

He has both a single and a double for sale on the EE, so those must be them.
It might be helpful to know what you want to rebore them to, or what your goal is.

Re-bore the whole length and re-rifle to a new caliber or just re-chamber to something other than .30-06?
Doing the whole length is going to cost WAY more than the cost of the rifle. And also consider that with a double that the barrels are toed in slightly so that the recoil to the side from each bore lines the round up with the direction you are aiming. Alter the recoil energy by a significant amount and that means the regulation of the barrels needs to be adjusted as well. All that takes lots of time and skill. And time and skill costs.
If this was a Holland & Holland or some other high end rifle I'd say that it might be something nice to do. But a Baikal? Simply not worth the cost. Especially not when the rifle is already chambered in a commonly easy to find cartridge.

you can buy a new baikal double rifle in 45-70 for about $1000 from some of the site sponsors.
if i remember correctly the barrels of the double rifles are not all that thick especially the barrel that is adjustable. i personally would not feel very safe making them much bigger than 30cal. but thats just me, i like to play it on the safe side..

for the side by side 45/70 yes the barrels are not thick but i shot one and it was not a problem if you stay within their specs on the ammo you use.
i think i ll keep the O/U and trying to get from Europe a double barrel set with 9,3x74R on it.
they re really inexpensive double rifle express ....
the 30-06 arent much better, they are well within for most 30cals out there. but taking any amount out to get proper rifling will need to go to about the 35+cal and thats going to start getting the walls a little thin for my liking.
