Does anyone know who can bore out my antique 50 cal muzzleloader and rerifle it for 54 or 58 cal?
I have the breach plug out and I hope it would be a pretty simple job for the right shop.
Thanks

My father bought a t/c Hawkin with a very neglected .45cal bore and had Ron Smith bore it to 50cal with deep rifling and twist suited for patched round balls. The work was excellent.

Unfortunately in Canada it is cheaper to just but a new barrel from the US. I have a few sewer pipe barrels I wanted to re-bore , and even to just re-bore to a smooth bore it is still cheaper to import a new barrel.

Don't think so...........as I had a local gunsmith with all the correct import papers for Midway USA have Homeland security red flag a Green mt 1-70 twist .54 barrel because it was a destructive device being .50 caliber and over.Stupid people in positions of power.Another importer had HLS seize some Turkish 10ga shotguns as they went by caliber............Harold

"Freshening " the bore up to the next caliber on muzzle loaders was common from their inception ............Harold

Thanks, it is an original antique 50 cal rifle and I want to keep the original barrel for outward originality. That's why I would like the freshening to the next bore size.
I will try to contact Ron Smith.
Thanks
