On my Savage BTVS .22 I currently have a Leupold VX-1 2-7X28MM rimfire scope. The optics are nice but I find the fit on the rifle is poor. To get decent scope relief I have to crawl up the rifle giving a poor cheek weld this is with the scope as far back as possible.

The plan for this rifle is as a 100yrd target rifle. I have been told that the parralex of this scope as it is a rimfire model is set at 25 - 50 yards and I should be looking for one with adjustable parralex and and upper power of 10x - 15x

Does anyone have some reccomendations?

add a 1 piece rail like an EGW to get your scope to where you need it without crawling up the stock to see through. Why not look at a Vortex Crossfire II in the magnification range you are after. They offer these with the front adjustable parallax. If you want to upgrade go to a Viper 4-12x40 with side parallax.

Yah, something higher power with adjustable parallax would be the ticket for a dedicated 100 yard .22. Depending on budget, anything from a Bushnell banner to Falcon menace might work well for you. I currently have a Falcon Menace 5.5-25 on my BTVS and really like it.

I like the look of the rail that EGW sells might have to pick one up price looks decent as well. I was looking at the Vortex crossfire II 6-18x44 which lists its parallax at 10 yards to infinity.

As far as what I want to spend I'm a bit undecided. Not looking to spend thousands but I think around $400 should be realistic?

Not sure I'll be looking to go much beyond 100yrds as it's only a .22

What does being a .22 have to do with it? I've shot .22's out to 300 yards, and know of guys who shoot them out past that. It does start to get boring just shooting at 100. Eventually you want to stretch its legs a little.

Unfortunately, with a number of current production scopes, optics and tracking may be lacking at the sub $500 price point. I would lean you towards quality used vs new in this price range.

If you are able to budget more, I would suggest the SII Big Sky 6.5-20X50 LRMOA as an amazing starting point. There is no 1" scope that I have seen that comes close to the optics, and focus on these scopes. The reticle is so user friendly and gives many options for all sorts of LR shooting.

Next up would be the SIII 6-24X50 LRMOA. SFP or FFP is up to you. The New STAC 2.5-17X56 has really impressed too.

As I also do 22LR shooting out past 300m, you will want all the same options and features of any LR centerfire shooter so making a larger investment now, gives you a scope you can use as you develop in this sport.

22LR at 300m is pretty darn close to shooting the average 308 at 1000yds. Can't think of a better practise set up for those on a budget or are limited to distance at their local range.

Enjoy...
