Reccomended High veloicity air rifle?

I have a Weihrauch hw95 luxus (.177 break barrel), that I recently purchased on a whim. Was looking for a good quality air rifle that I hoped would last. I dont know very much about air guns (had a slavia as a child, and a couple cheap can tire guns over the years like crosman/beeman/gamo), and had never even heard of Weihrauch, I just took a chance. There is absolutely no comparison between a typical can tire air gun and a quality built one in my opinion.

PS: i'm not bashing crosman/beeman/gamo, many of them are fine air guns, just referring to the cheaper models I personally bought from can tire in the past. If you want to buy a well built one, look to weihrauch/air arms/rws diana. Just my 2 cents.

It depends what you want, are you hunting in the cold, then id go with pcp or a nitro piston, is it warm only gun and you want a single pump springer, How skilled are you at a airguns, because some springers need a fine touch,

$750 Diana Mod350 .22cal Magnum/Panther is about as nice as they get for springers, but is expensive, works well only in the warm and takes some skill to shoot consistently, but is a tack driver/ powerful and is very ergonomic and consistent when used properly (love it) Fairly Loud!

$275 Diana Mod240 .22cal is also a nice airgun lower power but very accurate out to 30 yards, very quiet, good for upto id say smaller squirrels still expensive, to be used in warmer weather (love it) Very backyards friendly

$450 Remington NPSS XL .22cal Very good cold weather gun and can be left cocked for pro longed periods due to its nitro piston, very accurate out to 50/60 yards has considerable Muzzle energy 16lbs ish 950 fps, Takes practice like the panther to master, Extremely quiet! Backyard friendly!

$450 with pump Benjamin Discovery .22 cal Good all around gun , very powerful good to about 70 yards, must be charged with a pump to 2100 psi, you will get about 30 shots before needing to top it up to maintain consistency. VERY LOUD! no baffles, much louder than a .22lr almost a .17hmr loud.

So its all about budget and what your needs are. I know there are tons more options but I wanted to keep the list reasonable and affordable for most that ive got experience with

HW80 is a classic top of the line springer at around $500+ as for affordable quality a Diana /RWS 34 or 350 mag in .22 $300-$500 Specialty Shooting Sports in BC will be the cheapest place. My HW80K/.22 will through and through a 3/4" pine board at 30 yards.Shot lots of grouse/crows /magpies and gophers with it.Farthest was 40 yards on a spruce hen and a gopher..........Harold

up for interest

Still haven't decided?
Are you looking for a spring piston rifle? If so, a fixed barrel under-lever or a break barrel? A PCP (pre-charged pneumatic) will cost more, partly because it needs "filling" equipment such as a HPA tank or HPA pump. What's your budget?
When looking at air rifles, never ever be sold on high muzzle velocity as being the most important factor. Whatever gun you are looking at, the muzzle velocity (as some posters have noted) should not approach or exceed the speed of sound. That's where pellet flight destabilizes. That means that in whatever caliber you choose, the pellet should not exceed 900 to 950 fps. Heavier pellets help produce an acceptable MV in a higher powered gun.

Where is a good place to buy any of those?

The Disco is loud? News to me; might be a little higher report than a springer, but not much. Not close to a .22, and way far away from the noise from a .17 HMR.

I purchased the gamo big cat from cabelas and I'm really impressed. Using premium pellets I can get impressive accuracy for a pellet gun. Good luck and let us know what you decide!

The Discovery is actually quite loud -- much louder than a springer.

I'll agree that it is louder than a springer. I'm not sure that I would call it loud compared to a .22 LR though, as was suggested. And it for sure is not near as loud as an HMR. There is a good airgun review online. Can't think of the name, but he measures the sound level on all of the test guns.
