Hello cgn

I just received my first pistol a cz 75 b omega. Brand new from international shooting supplies. I took good advantage of their sale and paid a little under 600$ delivered to my door :).

Anyway I received my att and transfer notice but no registration certificate.

Wondering if I can go shooting without the registration certificate if I bring the transfer notice. The registration certificate number is written on it.

The wording on my att make me believe am good to go.

So am I good to go?

Thanks for the answers.

I almost forgot the obligatory gun ####

No.

You are required to have the registration certificate with you. The transfer notice is just that. The certificate is probably a week behind.

I'm no lawyer but I say yes,
From what I understand (I actually believe it was written somewhere but can't recall exactly where, my guess would be the transfer notice) the transfer paperwork act as a temporary registration certificate, therefore it has the same value until you get the cert.

so you never bought a restricted and took it home, or had it mailed to your home as soon as you got the transfer paperwork?

No.

What does it say on _your_ ATT?

Does it say that you must be in possession of the Registration Certificate for the firearm being Transported?

Possession is not the same as knowing the number. But you wouldn't be caught anyway. And if caught, fairly likely that the Transfer Notice could be accepted, even though it isn't by a straight reading of the conditions.

My att is in french. But it does not say I need the reg cert with me.

It basically says that I can transport firearm that has a reg cert listed in my att. And it lists all firearm registered to me.

It does not say I need to have the reg cert with me.

I wouldn't be violating my att conditions.

I was thinking transfer notice was a temporary registration certificate.

Yours would be the first ive ever seen without it, why does it list your gun? My latt is just that it dosnt list my guns its for all the guns in my possession.

Call your cfo. Usually they can email you the document.

Will try to do.

I called a week ago when the papers were issued. They told they would email only in an emergency and that it wasn't one. I did not have the gun in hand at the time.

I will try tomorrow. Really hope that I can go shooting this weekend, or I won't be able to go for a month or so.

I would say you need the Reg Cert with the gun when you take it to the range. It could become a real nightmare without it if you get stopped and don't have it. Just my two cents worth.

The section you're going to need to reference on your LTATT is the "ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS / CONDITIONS ADDITIONNELLES" on the last page. One of them will most likely say the following:

"The holder must be in possession of the Registration Certificate(s) for the firearm(s) being transported."

The STATT that was issued to bring my handgun home for the first time carries no requirement of having a physical registration since I did not have it at the time. But it was only valid to move the gun from the shop to my house.

Regardless, the transfer notification is not a registration.

not sure how you passed the exam. It's mandatory that you have 3 things with you when going to the club, ATT, PAL AND registration. NOTHING can replace any of the three, except both ATT and registration can be copies. PAL has to be the original.

BTW. Nice gun. Enjoy it, with all the proper paperwork of course. :)

Nope you have to have the paper as Wil said..

This is probably a Quebec thing.
In Ontario, happened with more than five handguns, the nice ladies
at CFO (Orillia) when asked about this, offered to (and did) email me the transfer
approval and said that that would be as good as the registration certificate.

YMMV.

Update.
Called quebec cfo. They won't email the registration certificate. They tell me I can transport because the transfer notice act as a temporary registration.

Then I tried to call miramichi, they tell me they won't email but I can't transport the pistol.

Looks like my last chance is to hope I receive my reg certificate by snail mail this afternoon. Apparently it was mailed the 11th.

I might have to spent my Saturday writing a letter to my MP complaining instead of going shooting.
