I have recently got back the first rifle that I learnt to shoot with as a kid, It has no less than 7 holes drilled in the receiver. I can use 2 of them but I would like to restore this rifle because it has a special value to me. Can the hole's be welded up and turned down on a lathe. Or maybe plugs and JB weld ??? I would like to make it look like New  Jack

Check "You Tube", there is a set of gunsmithing videos buy Larry Potterfield of Midway USA. There is a good one there about filling holes in barrels that you can do yourself at home...search using his name.

Wow, there is a lot of stuff there. Great site for the Do it Yourself er. One thing I would be worried about when peening the screws, the receiver is open on this rifle and I would think it could be bent in. Maybe if the bolt is in, it would be OK. I would hate to ruin it. Jack

If this gun means a lot to you, I would take it and have the holes welded up properly. Just any welder won't work. I have a guy that welds with a laser using a microscope. The welds are perfect and heat from the laser is very focused and will not distort the reciever.
