Recent range fun

AHA!

You are ready for Day 2 of my Petawawa Clinic (it's a 2 day thing) where I get to coach you at all the mounds (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 meters). You will surprise yourself how good you really are! Especially with that Norinco Plinko ammo.... and then match hand loads!

Great groups, BTW!

Thanks! When's your clinic Barney? I'd be stoked to get to shoot out to 600m. I'm gonna try and find somewhere local this summer to stretch the legs of my M14 further, and my new Rem 700 :)

for a second i thought it was this gravel pit i shot at around whitecourt.
they had some motocross jumps beside it similar in pictures.
300m range of targets.

Looks to me like I won't be coming out to BC for any clinics this summer/fall. I've got a super busy match schedule here in Ontario and I have to carve out some time after my level 1 Trade School and some CQB / M14 clinics in Virden, MB and Calgary for the start of September! :)

But I do (ha ha ha) have an M14 2 day clinic on 04-05 June 2016, up in Garrison Petawawa!

Bummer Barney, was hoping to see you back out here this summer/fall. I definitely won't be able to make it to Petawawa in early June but might have to make the drive out to Calgary in the fall...

It's nice to see a well tuned rifle shooting like that in one of my custom m14s-cqb stocks. puts a smile on my face every time I see this thread :D

Forgot my phone today (oh no!) so no pics from the range except this one I took when I got home of a 5 round group shot at 200 yards. 2.118" @ 200 yards for a not too shabby (if I do say so myself) 0.86 MOA shot prone off a bipod and read bag.

Well I noticed my POI had risen above my POA during my last range session so I rechecked my scope mount and everything associated with it for tightness and it was all good... Turns out there was no longer any draw pressure exerted by the front tab on the ferrule, it was time to a lil skim coat with the bedding! What a great excuse to head back to the range to re-zero my rifle, heh heh. Here's some pics from today :)

Looking back down from the 475 yard line:

Never a bad day to go to the range!

I've been working up a load for my new Rem 700 and therefore haven't been shooting my M14 a ton, except at the end of every session to eraser the optic I've been sharing between the 2. I've been FL resizing my brass for the M14 but thought I would do a comparison to see if accuracy improved if I instead bumped the shoulder with a body die and neck-sized as with my bolt gun. I figured 4x 5 round groups (2 of each).

Target 1: 1.315 MOA
Target 2: 1.646 MOA
Target 3: 2.463 MOA (shanked...)
Target 4: 0.914 MOA

The 2 upper targets are FL and the 2 lower are body/neck sized. The results aren't super conclusive, in my mind. For one, the first group is only 4 rounds. Had my first ever faulty primer. 1st 4 rounds went great and then "click". Retried it and same result. The 15 following rounds went off fine. Strange. Also pulled a shot on the first group with the body/neck sized rounds. The last group is phenomenal. The numbers point towards neck sizing as being more consistent with the FL groups averaging and ES of 37.09 and a SD of 16.92 whereas the neck sized were ES of 29.88 and SD of 12.08. I'm kind of torn. Body sizing/neck sizing means I don't have to lube the inside of the case neck which is tedious but it involves another run through the press. Thoughts?

Speaking of PR and PRS Barney, I'm currently waiting for the new optic for my Rem 700 to arrive in country so I figured I'd do some barricade drills and prone drills with my M14 yesterday. I went and participated in the BC Precision Rifle Champs and am hooked. Such a different experience for me, to start using a methodology to improve vs just shooting. Shooting under time constraints is quite a nice challenge, even if it is just my shot timer app, haha. Some pics:

I impressed myself by making 100% of my shots on the 2/3 IPSC target standing at 475 yards! It's amazing just how stable you can get with a sling and a bean bag! Kneeling I need to work, I was only 50%, haha. Super fun though

I was out blasting on the weekend... haven't shot the Nork im a while, and i forgot just what a soft shooting accurate beast these are.
