Is it possible to rechamber and bore out a heavy barrel? I have a 308 heavy barrel and I would like to get it chambered in 358 win. Just curious if this is even possible.

I doubt a gunsmith could/would convert a .308 barrel (heavy contour or otherwise) into a .35. Even if its doable, it would likely be far more economical to simply sell one and buy the other.

It is possible but it requires a barrel maker who will do it, not a gunsmith. Not all barrel makers do re boring and rifling. Few and far between here in Canada.

how about 308 to 3006?

The bore diameter is the same but you'll need to put it into long action unless it is in one already( such as CZ 550 for example) but there may be another obstacle. Check your twist rate first, it could very easily have 1/12 twist and for 30-06, 1/10 would be much better to stabilize heavier bullet

If the bore is good now, why take the chance on making a bad one? As suggested, chamber to something hotter and heavier, or put a proper .35cal barrel on and start from a known good.

The only risk with a re-bore is unknown steel hardness and tool chattering.Sako,BRNO and a few others they may not do.SS also risky.
