Would it be worth while to have a 10" 22LR barrel rechambered to 22 Hornet ? I don't know what the twist rate for either would be. Has anyone done this or seen it done ?

That's how the Hornet was invented.Problem is a .22 RF is .2225" and a Hornet.........223 European and .224 N.A. Although if you can find them .22 Jet bullet once made by Hornady are correct size.Harold

The TC Contender has a selective firing pin. Rimfire or centerfire. You can also change barrels easily. I haven't looked into bullets yet but I'm thinking there is a good chance cast bullets would work

over and above the differences in bullet diameter, I think the 22 rimfire barrel will probably be too slow a twist for anything but the lightest jacketed 22 slugs. 22 rimfire slugs I think are 40 grains

cheers mooncoon

That may be OK. I wasn't interested in shooting any particular weight bullet. I mainly wanted a centerfire to shoot. 22 rimfire gets kind of dull. Plus finding a different barrel has been challenging

Firing a Hornet out of a 10" barrel would create a fireball like a 10 megaton nuke. I seriously doubt any reputable smith would do it. You don't really want a 14-16" .30-30 for the same reason.
"...finding a different barrel..." Try Cabela's Canada. Not the U.S. web site. They don't export. Or contact TC's custromer service and ask who their Canadian distributor is. tca_customerservice@tcarms.com

Well that's a neato feature. I apologize for incorrect info. Still, probably not the most economical solution.

Can't be any worse than my buddies XP100 in .223 With a 2.5x8 X LER Leupold it cuts less than 1/2 groups all day of the bench.

If you ream to 22 jet, there are chamber inserts readily available that will let you revert back to rimfire as desired...

One other thing to consider with rechambering... you're likely to be going up to a cartridge with a larger case head so the sliding extractor will have to be modified. That shouldn't be difficult, but is something to remember.

OP, have you looked into ordering a centerfire barrel from the US and having it imported through Prophet River or IRunGuns? I think you can probably land it in Canada for +$125ish. While a rechamber will be cheaper, the twist and bore diameter differences are going to be a compromise. A new centerfire barrel will get you a properly designed/configured barrel and you can either sell your rimfire barrel to recoup some of the cost or keep it for cheap plinking.

Quite correct! Fits in the S&W K series as model 53; although, does suffer there from typical tapered-case-in-a-revolver-cylinder issues (supposed to degrease with slovent so case dosen't slide back with too much vigour in that application).

The 256 has the same parent case as well, but for slightly larger bore, as seen in the ruger hawkeye single shot...

Was the Jet not made from necked .357 mags? Or am I thinking of the 256 Win ?Harold

Think that epps had aftermarket chamber inserts for around $25 each; although, can find original ones kicking around occasionally too.

While for 22 LR, it might be possible to open one up for 22 WMR... ...that would be an interesting convertible set up.

I have a xp 100 custom in 7mm-08.....shoots the same way and has one helluva bark to it also!! Always fun to shoot beside some one who isn't expecting it...muhahahah

Contender barrels are no longer available from T/C. The Contender line was orphaned when S&W bought them.
you can find used barrels on the EE or at gunshows. I would sell the 22 barrel and use the money to buy a hornet barrel. If you get the octagon barrel make sure you get the fore end for it as well. Octagon fore ends for hornet barrels are rare or a do it your self project.
I am looking for a 22 hornet barrel for the contender as well.
They are a great cast bullet gun, and the fire ball is not nearly as bad as folks say, not even in 30-30.
