Recently acquired a Ruger M77 in 25-06. Looking to rechamber into 6.5-284Norma . Thinking about it the 25-06 is a long action which is best for the norma as it will feed longer projectiles. Based off of the 30-06 it seems the 6.5-284 shares the same boltface aswell . If i'm not mistaken it just needs to be Rechambered for 6.5-284Norma casing and rebored to .264 Specs ? Thanks!

Too cost prohibitive to do all that to a barrel .A 6.5-06 would require no diddling to the feed lips or magazine.Brass available all over.

I think youll be at a rebarrel as well, dont think there is enough material to go from 257 to 264.

You'll be in to it minimum $650, more like $1K with options and finishes (and getting the mag to feed properly etc)...

Unfortunately it makes more sense ($$) to sell it, and buy a new rifle.

The .284 case is shorter than the 06 case so barrel set back would be required as well as having the barrel bored and rifled. It would be cheaper to simply install a new barrel the way you want it, alter the action so it will feed properly and use the old barrel for a garden stake.
