Rechambering 6.5 creedmore to 6.5x55

It should... it's bigger all around. Bolt face would likely need to be opened up a bit depending on the gun.
 
Simple answer - no...

The shoulder diameter of the Creedmoor is considerably larger than the 6.5. (.462" to .435") It would probably require cutting off at least an inch, maybe more.

Measure down the body of your fired Creedmoor case and see where it becomes smaller than .435"... because that is where the shoulder of the 6.6x55 will need to be to clean up the chamber.
 
I think you meant to say, "measure down the 6.5x55 body until it measures more than .462 and that is where the CM shoulder has to be in order for the chamber to clean up." The barrel would have to be set back that much.
 
#### that 6.5X55 has a lot of taper.
What would be the next 6.5 cartridge up that would clean a 6.5cm? 6.5-284?
 
So whats wrong with the 6.5 creedmoor? I am a 308 guy myself. I have seen the specs on the 6.5 creedmoor its not that bad. If its finding brass, it is out there lapua brass would be cheaper than a rechamber job.
 
Wouldn't action length be an issue anyway? X55 is .3" longer than the 6.5 CM which is a short action cartridge.

6.5 x 55 Ackley Improved would clean it up... make a nice single shot..

I have a donor long action 700 and an opportunity to acquire a takeoff barrel on 6.5 CM. No interest in running a creedmore in a long
Action!
 
To me, rechambering to 6.5-284 makes the most sense.

Simple rechambering - no barrel setback
Standard dies and brass
Lots of load data
Perfect for a Long Action

None of this makes sense however if it's a slow twist barrel, i.e. slower than 1:9.

Any guess how well that take off barrel is going to shoot?

Sounds like you are spending a fair amount in gunsmith bills to put on a barrel that may not be all that great. Why not just invest a few hundred more in a quality match barrel, spend the same in gunsmith costs BUT know the barrel is going to shoot. In the cost it takes to test the take off and find it is not what you had in mind, you would have paid the difference for that match barrel.

And the match barrel can likely be sorted out in short order.

Over the lifespan of this rifle (say 1500rds and over $1500 in shooting supplies), the cost of a match barrel is quite small and hitting targets with consistency makes it all worthwhile.
