rechambering a .308 to 30-06 AI

My Rem 700 LA is chambered I'm 30-06 springfield right now, with a light 24" contour barrel, I've been thinking about putting a heavy 26" contour barrel on it.

I found one on EE for a good price but it's chambered in .308, my question is can I ream the 308 to 30-06AI?

How much money you want to spend? Epp's smithy starts a $125 to re-chamber a barrel.
Doable for sure, but the half inch case length difference will need likely a bit of drilling then finish reaming and the .308 is usually on a short action vs the long for an '06.

308 to '06 AI is a no brainer.............I assume you meant that you found a 26" 308 chambered barrel for a 700 Rem, on the EE.

By my reckoning, a 30-06 AI reamer will only possibly clean up the 308 chamber without setting back the barrel.

Friend of mine up here has an older push-feed Winchester model 70 that was recambered from 308 to 30-06AI bu Alvaan Petersen. Works slick as a whip, and gets better accuracy than when it was a 308.

He is also married to a beautiful woman! Some guys just can't miss.

It may or may not require setting the barrel back a bit... depending on how large in diameter the factory .308 chamber is and how tight the 06 Improved reamer cuts... but it is certainly doable.
