rechambering a T3 or M77, how hard is it?

Hello fellas, I seem to have collected a bunch of rifles that are very similar and I'm thinking or selling a few or rechambering to something odd and fun. So...how hard is it to rechamber a M77II in 270 win to 270 Weatherby? How 'bout rechambering a T3 in 6.5x55 to 264 win mag. Is this going to be too much hassle and I should just sell 'em and get somrthing made the way I want it? thanks

Depends onyour barrel contiour among other things. Bolt face would have to be modified on both those conversions, and mag follower as well, at least.

Rechambered rifles go down in $$ value, not up.

You'd be $$ ahead to sell one and buy the one you want... and it wouldn't take months of waiting on gunsmths either.

When you go from a standard 30-06 size bolt face to the belted magnum bolt face, you also change magazine/feed rail dimensions.

It usually costs considerably more to do this and in some cases you may continue to have feeding problems.

The first thing I would do is check the magazine with the intended round you wish to convert to... and see if they fit in the magazine and if the bolt will bring them up towards the chamber... if that occurs then the feeding will most likely be made to work. Then the bolt face and extractor will need altering and the chamber cut.

The Ruger would be easy and work well. The Tikka would not fit into either category. Regards, Bill
